IMO what is stupid is that people have no regard for anyone but themselves or accept any responsibility for what they do. I ride a motorcycle and getting hit with a hot one is not fun.

That said, to answer the OP's question I would say during this time of the year expect the judge to be displeased with your wife's actions. As for the amount of the fine, expect the max and if you get out for less you'll feel lucky!!

+1 on yzernie's take. It's dangerous to riders, a big time fire hazard especially at this time of year and I once had a discarded butt come in my open window. Think that driver got a pinch?

I don't care if you want to smoke. I used to. But I do care if you are doing something so disrespectful to public safety.

Well, they might not start a fire every time, but in my career I put out two that were caused by cigarettes.

And I always wrote a ticket for this when I saw it. Zero slack....

Issued a ticket to a person who threw one out as I pulled her over. It was her birthday, guess what she got as a present.

To 556, define biodegradable in this sense?

          To the OP, good luck.

How about a lot of fires every year? Ever seen a cigarette thrown from a vehicle at night? How about the sudden glow from the influx of oxygen, and the burst of sparks each time it bounces on the roadway surface? Yeah, I've seen a lot of fires started along the roadways that were caused by careless and selfish morons flicking their trash everywhere.

Because cigarette butts are so lovely floating down the water ways, sidewalks and landscaping.

The one violation that is just about guaranteed a citation from me is this one. Every time, no mercy. How about drivers use the @#$%@ing ashtray in their vehicle and not burn the countryside down?

Way back in my younger years, when I did my fire fighter 1 internship with CDF (now CalFire), our station was right off Hwy 101 in San Martin, we literally, in the summer months, we're going to fires started by tossed cigarettes almost everyday along 101. Albeit they were not big ragers or anything, but they definitely started up. Most were simple enough, roll out, pull a side line, throw a few gallons of water, call it good, but it did require us to gear up, start the engine that gets a whopping 2 mpg, tear *** out, and then an hour of writing reports and other associated BS.

To those that think tossing cigs out he window don't start fires..... You are quite dillusional.

Not to mention the butts make their way into our rivers and ocean, and spread toxic chemicals to our wildlife, and ultimately our food and water supply...

There are lot of idiots that throw cigs out the window . I wish they would all get caught and given the maximum fine. Don't get me started on the cell phones.

Two months ago I actually put out two grass fires in one week that appeared to be started from cigarette butts....

I used to throw them out the window. Then I almost coughed a lung out the window. Now I have a 10 inch scar in my side from cancer. Been cancer free for 12 years

depends on where you are at. we have several each summer on all the heavily traveled two lane back roads and highways up here when the grass dries out. Its illegal to even ash out the window in Roseville. I keep an empty can in my truck(my ashtray is my coin tray), or I toss them in my bed and sweep em out later(I rarely travel on the interstate so they stay in the bed).
