Everything is good until you get that DQ letter in the mail. Make arrangements for last minute plans. It's possible you get a call to start a few days before an academy.

Hang in there man. I was worried and thinking the same when i was in your shoes. The dept i got hired with sent me a conditional offer of employment and then a formal letter. In between that time there was a long period of time when i didn't hear anything. Just stay in shape and keep getting yourself prepared for when they call. Good luck to youCalguns member formerly known as Long Beach

Thank you everyone for your help and your support. It really means a lot. I can wait to start my new career and be able to help out my family with some financial burden down the road.Comment

I am still in the process with them sir. I have been told they are so backed up right now so I will just have to wait and see. However, I did pass my polygraph with LASD last month sir.Comment

My BI just called me few days ago and left a voice mail message. She told me her Sgt. has signed off my file so she will be presenting my file to her Lieutenant now.
Thanks everyone for all your help and your encouragement. I guess I will find out whether I get hire or not within couple weeks.Comment

Well Veeklog, I have you beat. I received a call on a Wednesday evening at 5pm to start the pre academy on Friday morning. Unfortunately, I had already made a commitement to my employer at the time to run this big event for him. I was managing security at a series of concerts for the next week. I asked if they had another Academy date, she said she could postpone me to the next academy but they would only do it once. I said I would be there when they called. Needless to say, those were the longest 4 months of my life, because I thought they dropped me from the list. I prepped my job that I may be leaving in short notice and they understood and were ready. I finally got the call, and guess when it happened, at 5pm on the wednesday before the academy started. It was hilarious and luckily, my current job was ready to let me go in short notice. Its been 13 fun years so far.I got you beat on that; for my current job which I was hired for 11 years ago, I was working mids with BP when I got called at 6 am PST. The lady in DC told me that they could give me choice of offices, but had to report to Glynco in three days. My resignation letter went over "quite" well with management

I got that one beat, got a call at work at about 2PM, from the Lt. who asked me if I could be at the city council meeting that night to be sworn in, by the chief before he went on vacation, oh and start date was the next day shift. My boss was pretty good about it, however her boss was a d!*#, and wrote me up, like it was going to effect me at my new job.
Things don't happen quickly until it becomes an emergency (not even then sometimes) or you make a mistake. Then the entire department knows before the end of your shift.
Hang in there.Comment

Just out of curiosity, because this does happen occasionally; what will you do if you have begun the Corrections Academy and your BI from LASD calls you to give you an academy start date.
I was in the LASD academy when LAPD called me for an oral interview. I declined it for various reasons. I did work with a deputy at the jail for 3yrs. when he received a call from LA County Fire Dept. to start their academy and he left in a flash, but that is a different situation.Comment

Well said for a textbook answer.
Reality? There is no such thing as loyalty anymore in LE. People move around a lot nowadays and it doesn't carry the stigma it used to when you see people jump around.
Do what's best for you and your career and your future. Nobody is going to look out for you. The agency's biggest problem when you are gone is how fast they can put another body in there. You will fade from memory within a week, or less.
