There is no such thing as applying for a patrol position at Sac Co.

You can apply for a deputy position, a reserve deputy position or a non-sworn position.

All deputy positions, after training, start in the jails (actually Corrections)...and you'll return there every time you promote

I was a mere 250 when I was with SSD... Now I'm 210. I plan dropping the extra 15 in the next few months... Back then, I just used all that extra weight to flip over the wall. Works well.

It's a patrol position that I applied for so I don't think I'll need to do jail time, but you never know.

Ask rockit how long he "did time". It comes in waves. Some did a year, other did 5+. Depends on movement and when you were hired.

If I am in hired and put into the jail for corrections, is that going to invalidate my post that I already have from an academy. Will I have to retake the academy in a few years of my post expires and I want to go to patrol?

No. The Dept keeps your post up to date.

Do you remember what the recruiter told you as far as the wait time was for custody when you got hired?

Not to hijack the thread but to the OP get your cardio up for the PT. The wrist lock is a piece of cake but get in good running shape as it will pay off in the end.

When I joined, they said 4-5 years...I did 40 months.

The shortest I've seen in 28 years was 1.5 years

About 2 years.
I could have rolled out around year 6, but stayed for family reasons.

1.5 years is pretty good. Guarantee you won't ever see that happen again. Although I suspect to do some good timing and other factors it was possible. I did 2 years and 11 months in my corrections assignment.

The 1.5 years was a perfect storm.

They were hiring new deputies and sending them to straight to Corrections without going through Patrol...IIRC they hired 250 new deputies off that list, so they replaced a huge portion of the folks in Corrections

It was the last batch of deputies, leaving Corrections, that could complete Patrol Training in two months
