I think someone needs to be honest and say this. With your record, you're pretty much out of luck unless they are really desperate for people. Why would they risk it with you, if there are 100's of other people with no criminal history applying for the job?

Congrats on spending some time at my department's facility! Some offenses cannot be sealed, juvenile or not. We have minors that have adult strikes to their names, so even if they get "reformed", the best they can hope for, is working as mechanics. And as to former gang members working as LEOs, simple explanation. They did their dirt, but never got caught. Simple as that. Being honest on your interviews is the best route.

It was possibly a detention come to think of it. I spent 2 nights at Los Padrinos juvie after being investigated at some office.

Hey, you never know. If someone up there takes a shine to the kid, and he politics right, he can be hired over someone educated and qualified. Seen it happen. LE is a very upsetting game sometimes.

The BI was not super put off and explained the process to me. I was given the chance to write my personal statement and to send it via email. I'm also a graduate of Psychology at UCSB. Not all "gangsters" are idoiots.

LE only catch the dumb criminals, the smart ones are harder to catch or don't get caught up in street crimes.

Look at how long it took to find out about Madoff. Whereas the local dumbass bank robber who writes a demand note on the back of his paystub is gonna get caught the same day.

Also just to add, there are homeless people committing crimes that have a college degree. So if a person is an idiot or criminal then having a college degree isn't gonna change anything.

Then you also got high school drop out that are millionaires and college drop out that are billionaires.

If they didn't contact all of your references and they are done... that means they probably figure they want you anyway. I've seen it happen where they didn't bother with the references and got it done fast. Like I said, LE is about who you know and what they want. Lots of things can be overlooked or bypassed as long as it is within POST guidelines, which are pretty lenient.

Totally agree 100%. There are some people in my agency that probably shouldn't have been hired but they get pushed along in the process by command staff and low and behold they get sworn in despite all the warning flags that I'm sure backgrounds see.
