Question for you LASD guys (past and present)

So I just passed my oral interview earlier this week. Now to fill out my packet and wait on my BI. But while I was waiting to get the run down on the packet, a new recruit was studying an LASD notepad, with codes and what not. Wondering where/ if I can get that notepad. Maybe you guys know what i'm talking about, its a small notepad, fits right in your shirt packet. I know i'm a long ways away, but just figure it would help out in the meantime.

Since you said the person looking at the code book was a new recruit and not an applicant, it sounds like he has been hired and is a cadet. I don't know if you will be able to obtain one until you are hired.

That said, what do I know, I'v been retired for 9 years and was hired in 1976. There have been a few changes since then.

I got my LASD radio code book during my ride along with LASD.

Yep. Radio code book, not a note pad. It has all the radio codes, clearance codes for clearing calls on the MDT, and statistical codes (part of the file number) for report writing.

You will get issued one when you start the academy. Most stations keep them in their supply room for deputies to use. If you go on a ride along and tell them your are an applicant in backgrounds, they might give you one if you ask.

They don't have any secret or restricted info, it is just a matter of supply.

Almost 8 months later, still have not got assigned a BI for deputy sheriff recruit...Any advice from you LASD folks?

Dang...13 years in and I still have not been taught the secret handshake or issued the secret underwear. Maybe a logistics oversight?

Good luck with your quest to become a LASD dep. They sure aren't speeding things up to hire these days. I know a cadet at another PD that has been in the LASD hiring process for months. Already has his bachelors degree and is fluent in Spanish. Took me six months to get hired back in the day. Did 28 years with LASD. Have spent last 11 years as a fulltime non-sworn crime scene investigator for a smaller SOCA P.D. Getting ready to call it a day for the law enforcement bizz.
