Alright, I'll be the first to say it. Not all things are created equal and not all things are equal. Nor will everybody just give up the standards, no matter how the unqualified try, just to appease everybody.

Law Enforcement is suppose to be a job of many things. Honesty and integrity being 2 of the more important ones. Although mistakes are made and God knows not everybody can be perfect, certain processes have to take place to ensure the best candidates make it through the door and the undesirables are weeded out. Credit history is a valuable and integral tool in this process.

My opinion is that law probably should be reversed so that all potential employers can screen their potential prospects.

One of the things that has been bugging me lately are the disingenuous comments that have been made throughout the entire board here. I think most people know why certain things happen, but those same people want to thinly veil their arguments with cloaks of complete fairness ignoring all the genuine reasons for certain processes that are in place. It's nothing more than the usual attempted slap in the face IMO.

Now does the law prohibit all credit checks or can waivers still be signed for potential employees for private companies?

and ODAWG, yeah keep trying dude. Even I had to go through a few departments multiple times when I initially started. Sometimes the testing pool is just rough. I think my competition at the time were quite a few Gulf War 1 vets with college degrees. All I had was a college degree.

You can say that again (the first part) Bobby. When I was a sgt. at CJ in the late 1990s, early 2000s, there was a guy arrested by Tustin PD in a sting who was buying/using heroin. I found out his fellow module trainee had been fired by our dept. while working at the jail for the same thing before I arrived. I always wondered why the first one always wore long sleeve shirts to work.

Then there was the female deputy who I've mentioned before who brought cocaine in to sell. They found a kilo of it in her trunk.

This is not to say there were not a lot of honest and hard working deputies working for the dept. I was fortunate to have many of those working for me.

        CREDIT REPORT/EMPLOYMENT HX/ARREST

        GOOD EVENING,

My credit is not bad nor good, right in between. I've paid off two credit cards about seven years ago finished paying off my first car last year paid off one student loan a few years ago but have 6k of student loans from the government. My concern is my credit cards from past went to collections due to unemployment will that affect me?

I also dropped out of a CSU to work in the fire/ems academies/service, where I currently work on an Ambulance. Later I went back to school my gpa and grades were a 180 change for the best. I've been released from employment once just before completing probationary period. I have seven years of above average service as a emt/firefighter. I have one year as average working for the state and UPS. I'm also in the military in reserve status.

I've been arrested once with all charges being dropped with no court appearance. I was caught up trying to help people I thought was friends only to find out they were not who they said they was.

People keep telling me if the military accepted you then LA should but the Marine Corp only accepted me after they did thorough background investigation with local LEO and me writing statements about my arrest and tattoos. No gang affiliation.

Do you think I got a chance at getting hired?

hey, better to fix it now than later when your FTO rips up your report and makes you rewrite it... haha

True. I've had a Gunnery Sergeant rip up a vacation pack due to communication errors. Pain in my back side to go through the whole chain of command three times and have to explain why.

BK is not good. Think about it. You want to be in a job where all your co-workers is going to buy toys. So as a BI I will think you are a great candidate for another BK. Your next relationship will be another divorce too.

I am a divorcee after being hired. One of my classmates and friend was a divorcee before the academy and in the next ten years got divorced two more times and got fired after 12 years on the job for 'women trouble'. The BI will think you are standing in a fireplace and you want a gasoline cocktail.

                      Good luck

Damn bro thanks for the negative input. Not all people beat their wives or girlfriends. And just cause one person does a bk doesn't mean they are trash. I'm 33 my truck paid for and have my own house and never been late one either or and the only reason for the bk was due to her spendings and her car that was under my name. I love how people assume I bet your the type of guy that would pull a nice vehicle over and search it for hours ,stereo typing the driver was a drug dealer too right? Epic.. See how stupid assuming sounds?

For a BI investigator to think so negatively and poorly of someone that he or she doesn't know is a joke in my opinion. It's all good though like I said I currently have a great stable job with more than enough OT and DT so I'm happy. It doesn't hurt to try to become a LEO. I tried and still haven't been dq'ed and if it falls through than cool if not then no sweat

They don't do the check, they want the applicant to bring the credit report.

I thought you wanted input...Not just smoke up your rear end. He said nothing personal and gave you the perspective of background investigators as it relates to BK and divorce. His statements had nothing to do with assumption and everything to do with experience (many, many experiences) of people in the law enforcement profession dealing with these issues. They can and do become big issues in law enforcement.

Your comments, particularly about searching a car were knee-jerk, immature, and show you don't really want real answers, only self affirmation.

If you want to fail the process but feel good about yourself then go ahead and continue. Otherwise I suggest you listen carefully to what is being said here and try to figure out how you are, and/or can become the best candidate possible.
