Tips for POST academy?

Oh, here's some more:

Don't creep into the parking lot in your low-riding fart can fast n furious mobile blasting gangster rap. Nobody is impressed by that **** in the academy, especially staff.

Don't get into the backstabbing, name calling, alpha male bull**** with each other because when it doesn't end well, it will be related to the staff and you will come out the loser. You want to be an alpha male and strut your peacock feathers, do it later when you are done. You haven't earned the right while you are a cadet.

If you don't know, ask. Find a cadet who's got his **** together and ask for help. Ask staff for help. For God's sake, get help before you fail out due to pride. This goes for FTO as well. I know this guy who was pretty earnest but too proud to ask for help even when he was getting unsat's continuously. He didn't ask for help until it was too late and he got let go on probation. Now he's unemployed for the last few months. Don't be that guy. Ask for help. Ain't no such thing as too proud when you are learning and if you are too proud, be prepared to be proud while unemployed.

Be quiet and get through it best you can without drawing undue attention to yourself. Don't try to be a track star. This ain't the Olympics. We all finish up the same eventually as fresh boots. #1 in academics ain't gonna stop a bullet or catch a suspect, and #1 in athletics ain't gonna help you write a good report, and #1 in shooting ain't gonna help you when you have to know if you have the legal authority to search someone who just ran from you.

Get your cardio built up prior to the academy..be able to run two miles at a moderate pace without stopping..after doing 50 push ups, 50 sit ups and 50 leg raisers.. prior to entering the academy.

In the academy, keep your mouth shut, do what you are told , and keep a low profile. Dont try to be a smart ***, the smart guy, or the know it all. Believe me, by doing so you will become a target. Just do you best, give 100%, and be tough. We will all know what type of street cop you will be prior to your graduation.

Goal setting is important, but, your goal should be to make it through the academy. Work hard, give it your all, and you will be respected. Believe me, after day one, you wont care if you are #1 or dead last, you will just want to survive.

If you want it you will make it..if you dont really want it, well those are the types the academy will eliminate.

I have to agree 100% with what was said above.

I did graduate #1 in my academy, though I was going part time (Reserves), and everyone else in the academy was shooting for full time. I did not try to graduate #1 at all, was slightly shocked when I got it, and I wouldn't recommend that you try either. Just do your best.

However, I *do* recommend getting into very good shape prior to the academy and be comfortable running 5 miles and up & down hills. That will prevent you from great suffering.

sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I'm curious as to what type of reading material I can get my hands on to study, if anything at all. I searched on Amazon, but didn't find anything specifically. There are a few study guides, but do I need a California specific one? I was selected for testing, so I know it's early, but no matter what happens, I'd like to get a jump on the studying. I've already started to get back in better shape as well..... not as easy as it was in high school.
