    The 6280 replaced the 290.

    I hate the forward cant. I miss my old Hoyt Border Patrol breakfront with the 12 degree reverse cant. Fastest holster I've ever had. Makes me miss carrying my wheel gun with rubber speed loaders and Bianchi Speed Strips with dump pouches. More room on the Sam Browne in those days too. No radio, no pepper spray. Just guns, ammo, handcuffs, and impact weapon/baton. Makes me warm and fuzzy inside.

        When I came on, I was issued a 92FS with a Safariland 280S. The 280S had a reverse cant (i.e. if the gun discharged somehow while still in the holster, the bullet hole in the ground would be just in front of your feet). I'm still carrying a 92 family gun but I've switched to the 6280/85 family of holsters. I've gotten used to and now prefer about a 10 degree forward cant, on duty and off (just picked up a Kaluban Cloak a few weeks ago - thanks for the suggestion/referral Mike!).

        I wasn't aware that we had officially switched over to the 6280 family for the 92FS. If so, that's good. I like it much better than the 280S. I do know that the LASD recruits in this about to graduate senior class and the new junior class have been issued S&W M&Ps with tac lights and what looks like a 6280/6285 holster with a forward cant. Will check on the exact model on Tuesday...

          Haha, pretty much describes some of the stuff I got from my late uncle who was San Gabriel PD. Makes me wonder how you guys did it without radio's on you at all times. Makes me imagine there was alot more kicking *** and taking names going on then.

            Some of the radios that we have right now and some of the spotty coverage in certain areas or inside buildings make it like you don't have a radio on you anyway... that's why we have cell phones!

              Amen.... I used either straight drop or 10 degree forward cant with Hoyt's. Best revolver holster ever made. That holster with a triple speed loader pouch and I figured I was pretty much loaded for bear. I'd like to add a reverse cant to my modest collection at some point.

              No lie. A year or so ago I bought up the duty gear of a long retired CHP guy along with his personally owned Model 28 6 inch that he carried for 20 years. His gear on the belt consisted of....

              * A very early Bianchi 27 breakfront, before they put steel in the belt shank,
              * Single handcuff case,
              * Double dump pouch for 12 extra rounds,
              * Baton ring

              A few gun shows back I brought that rig, along with my own as set up when I ended my career, to the Calguns booth as a "then and now". It's astounding to me how our predecessors got the job done with so little gear when sometimes it feels like we load out with everything including the kitchen sink.

                The cops back in the day had the flexibility and backing for the most part to do their job with what they had instead of having to carry every and the kitchen sink so that we can show we tried everything and we can't be sued before we didn't have the option on our belt.

                The baton got everything done because we didn't have to worry about pepper spray, taser, and any other type of intermediate force option. I'm not saying the baton is great and the other options are great for reducing the likelihood of injury for all involved, including the officer, so that is not necessarily a bad thing.

                      The holster issued to the new recruits with the M&Ps is the Safariland 6360 ALS holster. I didn't know we switched to the 6280 either, and in fact, my understanding is we are still using the 280S. I'll have to check with the BC guys tomorrow. I haven't seen anyone with a new issued Beretta in a while and didn't think to ask.

                      The 6280/6285 is now an authorized optional holster and the only authorized holster to fit the Beretta with removable rail/light, so they are becoming pretty popular.

                        Anybody use the Safarliand 295? I don't see many of them out there, but I like it.

                          The 295 was very popular back in the mid to late 90's where I worked but haven't seen them much since the SLS holsters came out. Do they still make those?

                            Sure do. I've got one in basketweave and one in "nylon."
