I believe you are all confused about the term tear gas weapon which includes OC and other chemical agents. I am not specifically talking about CS gas which while effective inside buildings is extremely limited in open air.

I am talking about this kind of thing.

I don't agree with this tactic. I think it is pretty damn worthless in my experience.

It's much more effective than using brute force. As was said in another thread... A few minutes of pain to the eyes is nothing compared to a compound spiral fracture on someones arm.

Whatever was used, I doubt it was very potent. It doesn't seem to have had an effect. Someone said some sprays take some time to have an effect.

I just got sprayed in my academy, took about 20 seconds to kick in. While the 20 seconds to kick in I was fighting with staff, and handcuffing. Then its the most intense blinding pain ever. It was a direct spray to the eyes and face. These stupid students have there heads down in fear (good idea lol) and didnt get it that bad. OC doesnt effect breathing too much, but it will stop you dead in your tracks or get you to comply.

A hickory shampoo job and tune up would have been more appropriate in my opinion, but they went with the less confrontational option and used OC.

As an alumni of UC Davis, I wholeheartedly give my approval to keep my home campus clear of debris, refuse, scum, tent cities, and communist reprobates.

I will be dropping off something at the UCD Police Dept as a show of appreciation for the hard work they do, and to show them that not all UCD people are scum sucking criminals.

He gets the crazy idea you're laughing at him.

Uncomfortable, yes. Debilitating, no. I got hit with a good dose by my partner while taking a resistive suspect into custody. Whining-crying suspect went to the hospital and then jail. I stayed, wrote the report and finished the shift.

Of course and what pisses me off even more is #1. I' am sure the boots on the ground leo"s were given the order not decided on they're own. #2. I agree who knows what led up to this. I think if they gave them a dispersel order and they refused and locked arms it was the safest way for the officers to disband them. #3 The lame Chancelor pisses me off since most of this is his and the boards fault for jacking up tuition another 9% for the 9th year in a row. How much money do they make I wonder eh? Sickens me to hear this crap I also wonder how many "faculty" were actually part of the protest.....

The error the Ofc. with the OC spray made was being to close to the demonstrators and spraying from a overhead angle. To be most effective he should have stepped back about five feet and sprayed while crouching down. This would have allowed the spray to vaporize in a more effective manner and caused the targets to inhale the aerosol cloud. Spraying from a more face on angle would have also increased the sprays effectiveness.

Remember the active agent (OC) is in a liquid carrier, usually water or an alcohol based fluid. For the OC to act at it's maximum the carrier needs to evaporate away. Using to much spray only adds more carrier and increases the time it takes for the carrier to evaporate lessening the immediate effect of the OC.

It would be epic to get SVT a shot on TV - "yeah - I disagree with the officer who sprayed the demonstrators" and then give the advice above. I'd pay to watch that...

Your more than likely to end up with a ton of people just laying on the ground screaming unable to move which works counter to your goal of moving the crowd out of an area.
