    BOE LAYOFFS,BACK THE WRONG HORSE?

I am not sure if this should go in this forum or not.
Is it true that the state BOE agent layoffs are due in part because the BOE union backed Meg for governor instead of Jerry? Anyone have any info on this?

    CA DOJ BNE

    From the CSLEA website:

CA DOJ Special Agent Alan Barcelona is the current President of CSLEA... the union that reps CA DOJ Special Agents and a host of other CA State peace officer groups.

CSLEA donated a ton of cash to Meg Whitman's campaign in the recent Governor's race.

I doubt Jerry Brown's operatives forgot about this fact and probably didn't fight too hard to save a chunk of money that funds hundreds of peace officer positions represented by CSLEA... politics is power, nothing more.

Layoffs are coming to alot of the State agencies. I have a few friends in Parole and they have been told that the Parole Agents that were hired in the last five years will all be layed off by 2013. Their supervisors are instructing all the new guys to apply to other department ASAP. Could be politics or it could be the giant hole that the state has dug it self into. Luckily, some of the County and City agencies are starting to hire again, so these Parole agents may be able to make a soft landing some where.

I made a post about California budgets in another thread before, but I'll say it again here. It amazes me that California has budget woes at all if you consider all the money making industries housed in this state.

        Agriculture
        Silicon Valley Tech
        Hollywood
        Tourism
        ????

I know the argument was made that a lot of this stuff is outsourced these days, but the fact remains that the industries are headquartered here in this state. You can't tell me Calif doesnt get some tax benefits from it. Just goes to show you that socialism does not work like the liberals here want it to.

I took a peak at the California budget, damn it's a mess. Hard to tell what goes where. I can tell you that if money wasn't blown on useless projects and mismanaged, we would be sitting ok with a lot of stuff.

Part of the problem with some of the state agencies is that the folks have not been through a full blown POST accredited academy. In other words some of the folks can't lateral to a PD/SO.

Backing the wrong candidate is very ugly and personal.....But it can be easily hidden. The month of July was short $538.8 million dollars in projected revenue (per the State Controller's Office). Brown can easily just say I'm trying to save money.

          Either way its very ugly.

What does Cali have, like the eighth or ninth largest economy in the world? How are we broke?

In regards to the budget i think a lot of money goes to different programs and agencies that do the same thing. A lot of waste and subsidies in everything really. The tax base is incredibly skewed as well.

From what I am hearing Parole will be doing layoffs and local Probation Departments are going to ramp up hiring. I know I have seen lot of ads lately in Southern Cali for probation depts hiring.

My Probation department is going to start hiring the first group of Deputies this month. We won't stop hiring until all the positios have been filled. We are probably going to start with 250 positions. Interesting times ahead.

Not that it matters to the folks possibly getting the boot, but the potential layoffs are General Fund positions and not specially funded positions.

Funding of so many things that don't need to be funded. I could list a zillion things but we all know that the biggest drain on our budget is illegal immigrants and the free handouts they get. I don't have any problem with immigration per se but, I do have a problem with doing it illegally. Then comes the free handout we give to the people who decide to squirt out babies for free income instead getting a job. I could go on and on.

Because the government in Sacramento spends more money than they can steal.

Is it because of AB 109?

AB 109 is pushing this major hiring in County Departments and future reductions in state Parole. I have three friends that left my department with I the last year and a half and they have all been told by their Parole management that they should reapply with us. All three are currently going through the application process to return to my department.

Yes. All of the realignment stuff going on with CDCR/Parole and counties is redirecting money from the state to counties since the much of the burden of supervising parolees is going to fall on counties.

Not only is this bad for the parole agents but we will surely see more crime with more parolees being released, counties being responsible for supervision, and such concepts as "irrevocable parole" (a crazy concept!).

The good part are all the probation department jobs being created. I believe just about all probation departments statewide are hiring now.
