i know the majority of time police officers have shotguns in their cars but here in long beach i do see a few with shotguns but there's many that have assault rifles as well..
If Marines could get what they needed, when they needed it, we would be happy and wouldn't ready to kill people all of the time. The Marine Corps is like America's Pitbull. They beat us, mistreat us and every once in awhile, they let us out to attack someone.

They have select fire shoulder weapons firing an intermediate cartridge? I guess that rules out the MP-5 (submachine gun), most civilian AR-15 (semi-automatic rifle), and the Mini-14 (semi-automatic rifle).

Please don't fall for the anti-gun lobby's use of the wrong words to sensationalist and scare the populace. Irt is next to impossible for civilians to buy a true assault rifle (which is properly a military arm) and even what CA calls assault weapons are merely semi-automatic rifles that look cool.

I was told by several of my supervisors that there is a suburban legend of a former high ranking official (2nd in command), who added a sunroof to his radio car, as a Captain. Scared the crap out of his girlfriend (wife at home) ride along. Lol.

Moral of the story... screw up big enough, and they will promote you even higher.

I hope this isn't too far off topic, but I always wondered how you guys secured your long guns in your cars? Do you need a key to unlock them, I mean they can't just be sitting in there unlocked can they?

Sometimes they are voice activated. "Hey rookie, get the shotgun".

We have the 590's in our rigs, 7 buck in the tube 4 slug in the speed feed stock. I personally set mine up with 4 buck in the speed feed stock 7 slug in the tube. Always, always, 0 in the chamber.

I too have found things in the shotgun barrel, mainly gum wrappers....

That was the mechanism which was used on my second night out as a rookie... While searching for a robbery suspect... Who just got done hacking up his victim with a butcher knife... As we followed the blood trail in the dark... With me on point holding the gauge.

LMFAO! Yup, that sounds vaguely familiar!

Several years ago I watched my trainee launch a #4 buck load into the air while loading the hoop up before shift. Happily it was pointed toward the drainage basin behind the station at the time. He is no longer employed by the county...

I had a trainee forget to load the boomer one night. It came up shortly after taking down an armed gang member who had just shot some other gang members in a hunting accident.

Needless to say, I wasn't a very happy camper and said trainee suffered a serious wrath....

Were you with me on that call? If you work where I think you do, you might have been thee that night 16 years ago.

This was way before the days of them fancy taclights and even before the surefire forearm mounted flashlight so I had to take point with the shotgun in the dark while all the veterans were behind me using the harris technique with their mag charger maglites.

The sergeant on scene figured that if the perp jumped out with the cleaver that I would put him down with the gauge while the officers behind me lit up the area and backed me with their sidearms.

My FTO felt bad and said he'll take point because he knew I was shaking in my boots but I told him no. The sergeant gave an order and it's my job so I will handle it.

Fresh out of the academy I saw the aftermath of a sergeant putting a round of 00 through the roof a brand new car.

I put the barrel of the AR through the screen as I was pulling up to a 211 in progress.
