We had a '79 Fury we called the "Great White Whale", it was by FAR the fastest car in the stable at the time, but handled like S**T! GREAT memories of the Whale... ;-)

When I first got on in the mid 1970s, I worked Men's Central Jail in L.A. like most new hires back then. I was working G5, the jail "patrol" car with a partner. We basically patrolled the multi story parking lot and would also patrol the whole facilities area of CJ, TST and IRC.

We also did mail runs to the Hall of Justice a few blocks away. One day while driving our 4 cylinder AMC Hornet; yes, that is what I said; a Hornet, we had to take some mail to HOJJ.

For those familiar with Spring and Temple where HOJJ is located, you might recall the driveway into the parking lot off of Spring has an incline to it. Nothing major, but an incline nonetheless. We turned into the driveway, but the car rolled back into the street even tho I was giving it gas. It could not make it up that driveway.

I tried it a few times, but it did the same thing and I'm sure I heard people in the area laughing, so I gave up and entered off of Temple. That driveway was flat.

        That was embarrassing.
