The may have come to an agreement, but it still blows!! We will not be gettin our "full" paychecks back until July 2013. Then they will negosiate a new contract. By then over half of us will have lost our homes, claimed bankruptcy and probly our marriges.Aim small, Hit small

Read through your contract very carefully. Most contracts have an opt out policy. They may have a "fair share" fee (80-90% of regular dues). There are also religious exemptions where you can have your "fair share" sent to a charity instead of the union.Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. -Benjamin Franklin

Vote NO when it is put up for approval by the membership. Just because they came to terms does not mean its a done deal. At least with furloughs you get time off.Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. -Benjamin Franklin

Negative. Opting out means you pay your dues to a charity. There are no religious exemptions in the contract. The dues cover PORAC and LDF as well which eat up mist of it due to usage rates... But not by me. It's the same three people who always need to lawyer up because they are always in trouble.
The union is also the exclusive bargaining agent and we don't get to opt out of the rules in the CBA.
Like I said, it's not the individual officer, but collective labor associations that are the problem. They don't always represent the interest of their membership.Last edited by Notorious; 03-17-2011, 2:18 AM.I like guns

Your 'F' up union has a opt out law. The law is bull. There is only a $2 dollar difference between being a member and not. We do not get to use our furlows. We r short staffed. Can't aforrd to let you take a day off. Plus, they take our first three overtimes and make them regular pay, so you will be able to get your full paycheck. The only time they ALLOW you to use your furlow days is when you take our scheduled payed vacation. Yep, they actully will exchange your vaca days for furlow days. So you are not gettin payed for all our vaca days. Your union is so dirty, it reminds me off the tv show the" sopranos." Orginizied gangsters. They do as they want, they don't lesson or care about there members. Your union president reminds my of charlie sheen these days. The only way to live like a king these days is to comment a felony. This state is a disgrace!Aim small, Hit small

Having been through many labor 'disputes' over the years the bottom line is this...you still have a job, you still get a paycheck, you still get a benefit package and your not standing in the unemployeement line next to the felons you supervised.
We are taking a minimum 10% cut to salaries and personnel and that pay decrease will severely impact my retirement in a year but I'm thank full I still have a job. Living within your means seems to have become a lost concept in America. The satisfaction of a job well done is to be the one who has done it

This is true. I won't argue that. So I guess being the good guy and wearing a white hat is not all that honorable any more. I was raised in a time when being a man, husband and father meant you were able to provide for your famliy. Being the sole provider of a family of five is tough enough. This state has taking away my pride, dignity and everything i have ever sweated, bleed and worked for. Yet, I am still expected to come to work, be professional and turn my head at all of the money being wasted. If I wanted to live like this I would have never went to college and got some minimum wage job at McD's or wally mart. I guess the American Dream is Dead!Aim small, Hit small

Corrections Officers have the toughest beat in the state, without question. But these top Union Official's are in bed with the rest of the scum politicians. 2 million donated to Scary Browns campaign. Employer contributions increases for medical/dental. Everywhere else the employees contributions are being increased. Most hard working people would sign off on this contract.Comment

If you had read our last contract carefully, you would have noticed that there are NO fair share dues as long as we are without a contract. We have been without a contract since 1996... You say the union leadership is a disgrace, and I agree. But you continue to pay them every month?Your 'F' up union has a opt out law. The law is bull. Remember, the union works for the employees, not the other way around.
