    Asking in a civil manner?

Why is it that someone felt it necessary to include "ask in a civil manner" when asking a LEO a question?

It is my opinion that such an admonishment infers that civilians are second class to LEO personnel. Maybe I am overstating this and I am the only who feels this way. It is my opinion and thank you for respecting it as such.

I am sure there are cases of people lashing out at a LEO on this thread, however, I would think that established rules of this site would suffice in dealing with any negative situation if such situation should arise.

This site is a great resource for all who are interested in firearms, related subjects, and activities. I personally enjoy being apart of this community and learning and interacting with my fellow calgunners.

I would be disappointed if this site becomes yet another example of an overly moderated forum where it's more like we are here for the moderation as opposed to being here together to enjoy our passion.

Again, this is my opinion and I do not mean to offend anyone.

I think you may be playing into the words a bit much... Since we are on a board, and your words might come across 180 different than what you intended, an explanation of your demeanor might be useful. 90% of communication is done without the use of words... Here, we only have words and smiley faces!

It was probably included, like you said, cause some "people" here felt it necessary to lash out at the LEO's on this site for what ever reason. I don't think it has anything to do with a class system here unless you found evidence of it somewhere on this site.

Any reason you felt so strongly about this that you had to bring it up?

I think my question has a different basis than the example you brought up

I've always thought it a good idea to be courteous with armed people... why I like ranges.

Rules, much like laws, often come about as a "reaction" to something. Therefore, I would submit the statement regarding asking questions in a civil manner probably resulted from one or many questions asked in a decidedly un-civil manner.

I doubt anyone would feel the need to say it if it hadn't been an issue.

Because some people don't have good manners and believe it's okay to act as such because there is no risk to being an anonymous jerk on the internet.

Now if you took those same folks who were rude and insulting on a internet board and gave them the opportunity to talk to a real live LEO in person I would bet $$$ that they would be civil and maybe even polite.

It's amazing how differently people act when their skin is at risk.

              Bottom line:

Some people lack even the smallest amount of common sense.

Civil: Why do some officers seem to have a gruff demeanor when dealing with civilians?

Not Civil: Why do cops act like jackholes to the people that pay their salaries?

Take a wild guess which would receive thoughtful responses, and which would be deserving of the ban hammer. If memory serves, both of those have been posted - almost verbatim.

Calguns is owned by somebody, and operated by somebody. Its not the real world, with real 1st amendment rights for everybody and everything. If the owners of Calguns hate broccoli, and ban anybody who mentions it, even with cheese sauce on it, they can make that rule. If they want "Calguns LEOs" to avoid becoming "I Hate Cops," they can set up any rules they want. If it becomes overly regulated for your taste, start your own web site. If its your football, you're the quarterback.

You can break the rule with me! Have at it! Ask in a non civil manner. I will respond to you based on your level of civility. You can send me a PM if the question is not acceptable. Keep in mind, I'm a Deputy. Not a City cop or Highway Patrol. So don't send me questions about tickets, cuz I rarely write them! And if it is about Assault Weapons or gun laws, well, more than likely we share the same sentiments. I believe all good citizens should be armed with the most effective combat equipment!

Because certain folks think it's their right to not be civil with us anytime they want for any reason they want. They will find something to be uncivil about just to say something. These are the people who will probably blow a gasket if they knew cops are human too and he probably knows a few people casually who really are cops but he just didn't know what they do at the time.

                              Yes to your first statement.

Since its Yes to the first statement, your second statement does not apply.
