    Oakley Assault Boots

    Greetings,

I did a search and come out with nothing. I was checking out the Oakley Standard Issue website, and I am interested in purchasing the 6" assault boots in 8.5 wides for duty use. Does anyone own a pair and/or have an opinion of these boots. It looked like Oakley improved the durablility of the boots. Are the shoes true to size?

    Thanks

I like them. Oakleys run small - I always get 1/2 size bigger.

    Edit:
Sorry, looking at the Oakley site now, what I have is not the Assault Boot. It's something else - mid height boot that they apparently no longer make.

Currently in Afghanistan with a new pair. I wouldn't get them if you're going to be doing serious work. If you're looking for a comfy boot for normal non high speed stuff, I highly suggest the Nike SF boot.

Edit - I just realized I'm in the LEO section... my bad. Knowing that, I would HIGHLY recommend you look at the Nike SF boot.

Depending on where you are locatd at. I know in the Bay area at Stoneridge Mall there is an Oakley shop. They won't do the US standard issue prices but you can try them on to see what fits you best. A few of my partners have them and I have never heard anything bad about them.

I have two pair of these; one in black and one pair in desert. The black pair seem to be more comfortable/flexible. I do not wear boots every day (maybe once a week or so now) but that being said I still have the ones I went through the academy with; they are durable and seem to be lasting a while. As one poster said above they do tend to run a little bit small so you might want to adjust accordingly.

Had a pair they look and feel great. But they only lasted about 8months and you can't resole them. I just wear Danners had them for 10yrs.

I don't think I'll ever own another pair...

When they first came out with their 'special forces' boot I bought a pair for duty use and loved them. They were expensive and they lasted over 2 years!

Later, after leaving law enforcement, I decided to buy another pair for daily wear. I primarily work in an office, but I still end up walking outdoors a good 4-5 miles a week. This pair was just as expensive but not identical to the 'sf' model which was no longer available at the time. Materials where of a much lower quality and the comfort level wasn't anwhere near the padded-glove feel of the originals. The sole padding was so nonexistant that I bought gel inserts for them immediately. I think they lasted maybe 8 months tops...sad for a $200 boot.

Had one of the first ones when it came out. It was ok but the quality was not great to be honest. The boot didn't breath that well for me and the soles squeak really bad on wet surfaces. The flame retardant shoe laces fell apart pretty fast too. Patrol use really tested the boot and it didn't hold up well. With all the other boot manufactures out these days you can find other styles much much better for the price with the gov discount. Save your money and get something else.

They run small as noted above. Very comfy, I feel much faster on my feet in them. They are more shoe feeling than boot feeling. Kinda of like late 80's vintage Reebok low mid rise high tops but more rugged.

However, after wearing the Oakleys I switched to an 8" 5.11 offering. They are a more traditional patrol boots offering greater support and a thicker sole. It is much more comfortable to kick a door in the 5.11's.

That's crazy mine felt like they ran 1/2 size big on me after about a month of use.

I have had about 5 pairs and I like them. They are light wieght and you can pretty well in them. They are not water proof and if it gets cold your feet will be cold. In my job I do a lot if hiking and they bearly last me 6 months. Also you can't really put a shine on the toe, so they can kinda be out of policy for some departments on patrol.

I give them a 8 out of 10 for my needs.

Check out www.usstandardissue.com for LE discount. They are $109 on there last I checked. I just emailed a cell phone picture of my creds and had access in a few hours.

Just recently I bought a pair of Under Amour patrol boots and they are about the same as the Oakleys, just maybe a little cheaper made. Onlyhad then for a few week so the jury is still out n

Most comfortable boots I have ever worn, but they wear out a lot faster than other boots.

By the end of a year in afghanistan, they were almost destroyed.

I liked them when I got them. They were comfortable but wore out in less than 2 months of everyday use. I will not buy another pair.

They are junk. Made in China. Don't last. Too bad WHITES does not make a boot for LEO's!

Brown (desert) ones are made in the US, black are made in china. They are super comfortable and ABSOLUTE CRAP!!! My first pair barely made it 8-9 months and I was dumb enough to give them another chance. Second pair only made it a few weeks before seams were popping. Moderate duty use, including hiking and short sprints.... I still think they are the most comfortable boots on the planet, I'm just not willing to throw down $100 every 6 months (or less.)
