When I was hired, I was sent to the store with a chief's letter and walked out with my new duty gun. Then I went back to the PD and qualified with it and 870 so I was ready to go on duty.

Cleaned after each shoot (about twice a month right now...Usually more), lube checked daily...USP40. Absolutely hate it. I have been having FTF left and right, only to have 5 different people give me 8 different opinions as to why its happening.

Most of us want to carry what we want, so I even had an accusation that I was intentionally causing it to FTF so we could push for us to carry what we want. Needless to say, that really pissed me off!

I clean it before inspection... and everytime after I shoot it. The academy range has a super cool cleaning setup with power washers, scrubbers, air hose, and all the equipment we need, including nitrile gloves... why would I wait to get home and dirty up the house and use my inferior cleaning kit?

When hired, do you guys get issued "used" weapons or "new"? Do the agencies save $$$ like the Military or buy each new officer a new sidearm?

When I was hired I received a very used Beretta 96G. Years later the department switched to the Sig P226R or P229R. I received a brand new P226R. Unfortunately after you are involved in a shooting they take your gun for evidence and replace it with another. So at this point I'm on my third P226R and I don't believe we have any new ones left.

My agency issues the Glock 22, But I carry a XD.45acp. My dept. gives alot of leeway with duty weapons. You can carry pretty much any Glock, Sig , Beretta, Ruger or Smith in 9, 40 or 45. I do a daily dust check and a good cleaning twice a month.

I don't know which is better job, ATV and dirt road or shooting guns (machineguns, silencers, other regular guns) and play with guns, ammo, bullets everyday. Oh, well, I guess it is a matter of one's perspective.

I used to drive a patrol boat and was an EMT and a rescue diver. It was a pretty good job, also. (Gave a ticket to Ice T and an attorney for a famous guy who caused a riot, on the boat) (Also, worked on the set of movie "Naked Gun 2 1/2" water scene).

But, the best assignment was while working undercover for the vice bureau, I've got massage with county money on duty, even got some overtime for it. When my wife asked me what I did for the day, I just told her that it was a classified information.

I carry a Glock 35 I bought, and really like it. I carry it off-duty as well when I can. It is by far one of my most accurate guns and my favorite to shoot.

Your telling me! It seems their opinion on it is... "It's never happened HERE before!" In fact, they may have said that to the range staff. It's still cold so we are wearing snow suits right now. I think I will make a concealable chest rig/holster I can carry my XDm in.

Isn't it funny when a department is micro managed to death over liability, but when it comes to vehicle and firearms, they are the last thing taken care of! Actually, its just sad.

At least once a week. I carry a Glock 22 and its a good gun. My department issues Beretta 96G and I was not a fan of it. I shoot the Glock frequently because its the gun I'm mostly likely to trust to save my life or the life of others.

I carry a Sig Sauer P220 Elite (.45 cal) on duty that I bought. Glock 27 off duty and compete with a Glock 35.

I clean my weapon(s) after every practice / qualifications / matches. Wipe off excess dirt / lint every other month and swipe a patch of Break Free (CLP) on the rails and barrel of my Sig Sauer.

My Glock 27 requires less maintainance, but I continue to swipe a smigent of CLP on the rails and barrel when theyre sitting.

The Glock 35 gets a swipe of CLP and in the barrel, but doesnt get the highest priority as would my on-duty and off-duty weapons.

Very cool details! I would love to have the opportunity to be on the range staff and work with the nfa items!

I clean my Sig 226 right after I come from the range, once a week, new recruits are issued the S&W M&P 9mm with a Surefire X300, I hate that gun, I had a bunch of problems with that POS, Slide Release failure, doublefeeds and my department even sent out a bulletin to stop using the M&P's because alot of recruits had nothing but problems with that gun during quals. But once again their good to go (huge mistake) but whatever. I was issued the 92FS, not a bad gun, but Sigs are my favorite.

In the academy, an instructor told us of a particular sting assignment where the officers went to certain massage businesses to do the bust. The only problem is the officers went all the way and never gave the bust signal. Twice. With city money. Guess which assignment was the most coveted after we graduated?
