Random checks for what? Possession of high cap mags is not illegal.

I've never seen it, but from what I heard from friends they've seen the rangemaster check people's mags. As some members already pointed out, it's nearly impossible to enforce. If the OP's high cap mags are legal then he shouldn't be worried or be paranoid about using them.

I get paid to work 40 hours a week, so why would I care if someone is using a highly likely LEGAL mag at the range? Unless said person goes nuts and starts shooting in my direction I'm not doing a thing. If cops acted off duty for every possible law that is broken.....I'd never get my lawn mowed cause all I would be doing is dealing with minor BS all day long. Most experienced cops know that acting off duty is a huge liability and won't do it unless something major is going down right in front of us.

In the past i did have 1 ro check my 10/30 ak mag with a pen. No biggie....also i have shot 30 rds.of .223 through my my beowulf mag. at an outdoor range. I don't think anyone would say anything unless your acting like a noob at the range and not following proper gun ethics.

You know, some the FUD-TARDEDNESS I'm seeing in this thread is part of the reason I dislike public ranges.

With the easy access to information that we have these days, especially here on Calguns, I'm frankly astonished that the OP would even post such a question.

Maybe you don't totally understand the law, High cap mags are not illegal to own or use in California.

I have a box with hundreds of high cap mags, every thing from AR, AK, HK, S&W, Sten, M14, Thompson ,Taurus, Berreta, Glock, Rugger pistol, CZ and Ruger10/22 mini 30, mini 14 mags!!, and many many more, and every one is perfectly legal for me to own and shoot. most have never been inserted in a gun, there's a good chance that no matter what hand gun I buy, if there was a high cap mag made for it prior to 2000, I have a mag for it, my rifles are all RAW so I'm good there too, so why would any one have any thought of asking me about my mags?


Just as when assault rifles were about to be banned, when mags were, I went on a buying spree, I'm sure there are alot of us who did the same, I spent a small fortune on mags and assault rifles prior to the ban.

Enforce what? There is nothing illegal about using legally owned +10 round mags unless, you are manufacturing an AW by putting them in a fixed mag firearm.

Dude, why would you arrest them without going Rodny King on them first? And, why bother getting a warrant? The mere fact that they were shooting a gun at a public range should be enough PC to search and destroy their vehicles, homes, workplace and storage units.

This is why I don't go to public ranges.

I practice at an action pistol range and just about every time I go during the week there is some law enforcement group also practicing (they use our range all the time). I have seen local PD, many SWAT units, Park Rangers, and even Bridge Patols. I always exchange a few friendly words with them as I pass them on my way back and forth the bay I'm using. I practice with my open gun (with 29 rounds mags) or my limited gun (20 rounds mags) or my AR & shotgun. Never, in the 5 years I"m been doing this, has one of them even asked about my gear or the manner in which I'm shooting it (shooting on the move, draw practice, shooting multiple targets fast (i.e. 3 targets at 5 yards with 2 rounds each in about 2 seconds from the draw). I've caught them watching now and them.

I don't give a rip if you've got a hi-cap mag at the range, the law is nearly impossible to enforce anyway. The only time I deal with it is if I find some turd parolee or crook in possession of one, then it's game on.

There is no law prohibiting the possession of high capacity magazines, so as a LEO, what do you expect me to do?

Personally, I'm not in to violating people's rights.
