What would you do about someone using hi-caps?

Say your at the range and you notice someone fire off more than 10 rounds in their handgun, say 15 rounds. Would you leave it alone or what action would you take?

There is no action to take except to mind your own business. He may have owned the magazine prior to the ban. He may be Law Enforcement. Etc.

You have this question in the LEO section. So you're asking the cops what they would do, correct?

I think most wouldn't think twice about it.

Are you asking to get other fellow LEO's opinions? or as a concerned citizen?

There are thousands upon thousands of people who can legally own Hi caps (cops) AND thousands upon thousand of people who had high caps before the ban. Why in the world would it even raise an eyebrow? Just keep on shooting man.

I'm only asking because of the abundance of magazine rebuild kits and I was just curious the legality of hi-caps. I personally had pre-ban for my ar-15 at one point before I sold my rifle but was too afraid of what others might say to ever take them to the range, I didn't want to ever have to explain myself if approached by an off-duty LEO or anything. I guess I just wanted to see an LEOs point of view, I figure they are off duty, so they aren't too worried.

the only time they may be an issue is if they were used iin a crime. Usually the DDA won't care because it is a lesser included charge in the original crime. When I am at the range off duty, I could care less what the guy next to me is shooting. Use your pre bans and enjoy them. If an on duty comes up they you should remember your Miiranda rights and use them. "you have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you". In simpler terms, shut your mouth.

As an off duty LEO, I'm not going to get involved in personally stopping a crime unless there is a danger to someone else. Illegally configured firearms at the range don't come anywhere close to something I would take any enforcement action on. As to your (or anyone else's) large capacity magazines, I wouldn't bat an eye. As others have said, possession is not a crime. The crime is manufacture, import or offer for sale. Even if I was the type of LEO to arrest you off duty at the range, there is nothing I could do about your possession. I would need to prove that you built the mags, or imported them. I would need to watch you build the magazine from parts, and then be able to prove that none of those parts came from a large cap that was already in your legal possession. The same goes for importation. I'd need to watch you buy the mags out of state, then verify that you didn't replace any parts with parts from a legally possessed large cap before you crossed state lines.

The large capacity law is more of an honor system than anything else. It's one of those laws that (thankfully) is very hard to enforce. Please enjoy your legally possessed large capacity magazines at the range.

At some ranges I heard the range masters/employee conduct random checks.

Random checks for what? Possession of high cap mags is not illegal.
