Certainly a reason to be extra safe and concerned in stressful times as we find ourselves in but 'War On Cops"?

Not that criminals ever gave a fork, but it seems these days they REALLY don't care about getting in shootouts with LE. I wonder if prison is that bad that they don't want to go there/or go back. Or they just don't care about the consequences of their actions. Something's definitely going on for sure cause when I was in law enforcement, I only wore the black ribbon once. Nowadays it seems like a permanent staple of the uniform.

Well, if you were more educated on the facts, you'd know that 2010 saw an almost 40% increase in officers killed in the line of duty compared to 2009. So yes, 14 deaths so far in 2011 is high.

I guess none of your officer friends have ever been killed. Lucky you.

Sacramento Police Dept. just released crime statistics for 2010, despite a huge reduction in staffing they were successful in reducing crime in nearly every category....Coincidentally, guess which category showed an alarming increase??? Violent assaults on officers. Your elected leaders and appointed judges are releasing nearly 40,000 inmates from Dept. of Corrections, Parole and Probation supervision is nearly non-existent (Sac County laid off over 300 probation officers), Staffing is at or below levels of 10 years ago and unfortunately it seems like it will only get worse. To top it off, we get beefed for every officer involved shooting that happens. I'm nearly done with my career, I certainly don't envy younger officers who'll have to work in this environment for the next 20+ years.

Well the state has to do something about all the criminals that have better health care than me, I own and operate my own shop for 12 years, have 4 employees but for the first time in my life can't afford health care, yeah I know. Why don't we kill all the idiots on death row asap, if we can't afford to keep them in prison. Why does an inmate even get health care in prison? My buddy works at Chino (prison) and tells me how well they have it, no wonder they want to commit crimes and get back... Its sad to see officers take the heat from criminals, they need to figure out something quick in Ca, but to bad our liberal government the ones in charge of us, is the one causing all these problems!

Local PD's always call our IRC to see if there suspect meets the criteria to be booked in. I get so upset and embarrassed when we have to tell them No because the suspect didn't do something violent enough. We work off a point system(which is ridiculous). So the officers will put their lives on the line to detain a suspect only to be told "No". And all our probationers and criminals know this and take advantage of it. Be safe out there, it'll only get worse.

Look how many we've lost in just the last 5-6 weeks (and how many more it could easily have been - the wounds just happened not to be fatal)...

That's a fact. The criminal mindset, the culture, a higher level of violence and acceptance of a short life is alarming. The inmate culture, scary to think some of these people will be back out on the street. Now we see lone non affiliated shooters like the AZ and trailer park incidents. If it keeps up at the rate of moral decline we are seeing, each LEO will be dressed and outfitted like a SWAT team member on every shift. The role of LE is evolving rapidly into a high specialized one that was not envisioned all that long ago. Obviously these trends need to be reversed, it's a priority for survival of our nation.

At this point, I do not know if it's a war on cops or a war on civilized law abiding society, maybe both.

I searched first .. dumb question if I may- Exactly how many officers in CA are shot and killed by a BG each year? last 10 years? last 20 years?

I would expect it to have risen quite a bit from when i was younger for various reasons including more people with more guns and a more blatant disregard for life from criminals, etc.. curious though

14 in january is a wow. Because one is too many as it is. What makes it even more worse is when they are caught with a smoking gun and it takes 20 plus years for them to get through the legal system with appeals. Then the they get to live the rest og their days with a tv and food on our dime. Then complain about how they are treated when they have only contributed to society in a negative way.

January isn't over yet and on average an officer is killed every 54 hours. I would be willing to bet at least three more officers die in the week we have left.
