War on Cops?

Anyway Sergeant Friday told Frank his partner after they busted a bad cop; "When you have to recruit from the human race, you're going to get a few bad apples" I always love that quote.

That one came from Chief Parker... and it's as true now as it was when he first said it. It's the one thing that a lot of people outside the business don't take into account.

I place blame on our media and the liberal politics of *Hug-A-Thug*. Between these 2 factors, the problem of thugs in our society has been boiling for some time. With the media blaming cops for everything from excessive force to not being caring enough, and politicians coddling the thugs and making speeches on how turdball is a victim of society or whatever, these sorts of assaults will escalate. (NOTE: I am NOT saying all cops are free and clear of everything). It also never helps when politicians sell out the cops for a media sensational blitz before any investigations are completed.

I got a chance to take a trip to a red county a few years ago here in this state, and a red voting state this past summer. I can tell you the difference it makes when the media is held to the fire for making sensationalized stories at the public's expense and when Politicians actually grow a backbone. When I say public's expense, I am talking about all the stories they air saying ohhh look how bad this *citizen* is being treated, then a few days later making a small correction on their previous *investigative journalism* or adding the fact that said citizen is out of prison for the 4th time.

I've pretty much since cancelled any and all newspaper subscriptions I've had and wrote to the newspapers as to why. Will it make a difference in this area, probably not.

Such a tragedy that so many public servants are being killed; being a former Marine, I can definitely understand how the loss of a brother/sister impacts an individual. Not being an LEO, my question is what, if anything, are the departments doing to combat the increase in fatal cop shootings???

There is definitely a war on cops being waged. Unfortunately, my take on it is that about half of that war is being waged by administrators and politicians who underfund staffing, equipment and training budgets to a ridiculous degree.

Well, in Oakland they're laying off cops. In Simi Valley, they're giving cops a 7% pay cut, retroactive back to their last contract deal. I'm sure these aren't the only ones, just the ones that I actually know about.

We can't do anything other than provide more training and awareness. Maybe issue a memo to mandate wearing soft armor... try to double up on patrol... you know... reactive stuff.

Police departments cannot do anything to proactively combat someone who wants to kill you. We don't get to take out a perceived threat like the military can. Our use of deadly force is only in response to a deadly threat.

So while we can help our officers to become more aware and better trained to deal with the problem, we don't get to actually do anything proactively to deal with the threat.

A+. I am all for paying whatever is cost for officers to be doubled up in any area that is even remotely questionable, especially at night when the vermin seem to slither around. After all, one LEO down or delayed is one less LEO to be at a scene helping a citizen. If we want reasonable protection, we need to provide reasonable recourses. If the population continues to grow and the threats continue to rise, I envision someday all cruisers will be armored. Not kidding either. At least it would provide a safe area to retreat to or say within.

I keep dreaming the future will be like a Mad Max movie.
