LASD E.LA Deputy shot in E.LA

A deputy sheriff with 3yrs. on and only 3 weeks at East LA Station as a trainee was shot in the face tonight. He is still alive and at USC Medical Center. Suspect dead.

Los Angeles Times blogs that were published between 2006 and 2013.

I hate it when the media says, "routine patrol." There is no such thing.

I have been watching this. Lee Baca just gave a mini press conference update. Parolee shot victim and aimed gun at second deputy, second deputy was able to knock the gun away and shoot and kill the suspect.

Prayers and best wishes to deputy, also to the second deputy who was involved in such a tragic inicedent

Man... that's familiar territory. Hope the deputy recovers. Good job on the FTO for getting it done and saving us the cost of the trial and incarceration on that POS.

Not to be cruel, but this is the way it should end (minus LEO getting injured). I am sorry but if you are shooting or attempting to shoot at LEO, game over for you. You shouldn't leave the scene unless you are in a body bag or a box being loaded into the Coroners van.

The LEO that shot the suspect might have some remorse and will now have to live the rest of his life knowing he killed someone. But the fact of the matter is he saved his partner. Saved himself. Could have saved innocent people because the suspect wasn't able to flee. He saved the tax payers lots of money. So to all that I say excellent job! You did the right thing.

A, "gang member on parole." Gee, go figure. Well, now they can write that the gang member WAS on parole.

Good job F.T.O.! and prayers to Deputy Mohamed Ahmed and his family for a strength during his recovery.

Prayers for Deputy Ahmed and his family. Also, prayers and job well done to the FTO.

I work at an Academy and right outside my office window, I see the role play traffic stops that the Patrol School Deputies conduct. Every time I see them out there, I hope and pray that these "kids" have long, happy and safe careers. Stay safe all my Brothers and Sisters out there.

Finally had a chance to see his picture on TV and realized I went to school with him.

Best wishes to him and his family.
