The best advice given to me when I went through the process was: "Go on with life like you're not even processing. When you get a request to do something, be somewhere or submit paperwork......then do it. However, go right back to daily life like nothing is going on." If you sit there and count the days, you're gonna drive yourself crazy.

yeah I need to stop thinking about it since it's a lengthy hiring process. I guess once I know my test score I can relax a bit more and not worry about it

I take my test Jan 12. It's crazy that it takes 1 to two years just to get hired.

use the study material they sent you. I was shocked at how people showed up with out pencils(lucky for them they had extras at the test site) and others didn't even know what the guy was talking about when they were asked if they wanted to test in artificial language or spanish

It really isn't. I began testing for LASD in 1975 and started the Academy in June of 1976. There are only a certain number of BIs and they will each have a number of candidates to handle. Backround checks can take time; especially for those who lived out of state previously.

An example of the latter is the following: I was in a group of 10 who took the physical agility on one day. There were a number of similar groups also doing the same.

One of the guys in my group was hired a year later than I was because he had lived out of state. It took longer to do his backround. He just happened to have played for the San Diego Chargers also. That had nothing to do with his backround, I just thought I'd mention it.

Just be patient if you can.

ETA: I just remembered; 3yrs. after I took a test for a fire dept., they contacted me for to take the oral interview. I had already been a deputy for 2yrs., so I declined. I'm not crazy about climbing up 85' ladders.

Yeah, you're definitely in for a long process... I tested back in September, got my results, got my tentative job offer, sent in my pre-employment and background paperwork/fingerprints, and went to and passed my oral board back on 11/15... then everything ground to a halt. Spent about 2 weeks basically watching my phone, waiting for the call for my poly or medical/fitness test... then I just kind of forced myself to go on as if I'd never applied. At this point, if/when they call, I'll be ready... but I'm not otherwise waiting on pins and needles.

As suggested above, go on with your lives. The whole process can take up to 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, and sometimes 3.5 years. Out of nowhere, just when you have already forgotten about it comes that phone call with the job offer. You kinda scratch your head and say WTH!

+1 on not thinking about the hiring process. It took me two months to receive my TO package from hiring process after getting my test result. My score was decent too (90) and still took that long. I am passing my time by taking my upper division accounting courses from California State University in order to get my BA Degree. Just dont think about it and use those down time to get your schooling done or exercise to get in good shape. However, I do wish I get hire soon because I am getting sick of school these days. Every semester I have to fight or slap myself to not buy guns with my scholarship and grant money lol. Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm sounds very good right now.

I just received my NOR and passed with an 85 school is also getting a bit tough, I've been trying to take 12-16 units at my local CC and was only able to get 8 for this spring because a lot of people are going back to school. I'm also taking accounting. Hopefully our next firearm is the hk p2000 and we'll be able to get LEO discounts on our next purchases so we wont have to slap ourselves

and thanks for the advice guys, I guess I can relax now and just go on with life

Good job on passing, now just be patient and wait for the TO package. You should be getting one with your passing score. I recommend you to keep signing up for school in order to get your associate degree from your community college and transfer to 4 year university in the long run. I am not sure how many college courses you took and how many different colleges you have attend so far. But when you receive your TO package from hiring center, they are going to be asking for your college transcript. It took me couple days to get all my college transcript. You could save your time by getting one next month so you do have to rush it in order to get it from your college.

You don't have to furnish any transcripts unless you are applying for Grade 7 pay, which requires a Bachelor's Degree.
