    I thought we were once told we could cite for suction cup windshield mounted stuff (aux. mirrors, GPS devices, radar detectors, etc.). At the time I thought it was ironic because the patrol cars had a suction cup mounted note pad attached to the windshield.

    VEHICLE CODE

    26708. (a) (1) No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any
    object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied
    upon the windshield or side or rear windows.

      kw91364 has the correct exemption for GPS mounted devices in an earlier post above...CA PC 26708(b)(12)

          Note also that AB 1942 was passed and signed by the governator. It amends VC 26708 and will (when it goes into effect) allow you to have a dash cam on your windshield in addition to a GPS receiver. Summary from here:

          I'm psyched, at $150 per vehicle (including night vision) I'll be able to record audio/video of any and all traffic stops.
