We do have military units stationed on our borders. And thanks to all the politicos, they have an "observe and report" mandate that effectively bars them from doing anything significant. CA sent something like 250 guardsmen to the border where all they get to do is look through binos and call up the BP when they see anything suspicious. It's a disgrace for our troops and a bad deal for our BP agents.

I had my oral interview for the CBP yesterday and they informed us first thing about us. Definitely changed many moods in that room. As for me I can honestly say it's more motivation for me to serve and attempt to honor a great, fallen hero. I hope to start my medical exams soon and get to the academy as soon as possible. Horrible story.

          That really sucks, RIP Marine.

What kind of firepower are they giving these CBP guys?

Last PA funeral I went to was Robert Rosas funeral two years ago. Even after all these years, the 10-18's that are called still take a little out of me everytime.

For a sidearm it's an HK P2000 in .40. Rifle is usually an M4 but some get UMPs.

They all get long arms though right?

If you see video clips from youtube or CNN news interviews. Most agents are only carrying their sidearm HK P2000 most of the time.

As far as I know an M4 is considered long arm. UMP is sub-machine. Some members of BORTAC, which is their equivalent to a SWAT team, which is what Agent Terry was, carry M14s but as far as I've read that's not common.

                        R.I.P. Brother!
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

That's what I've getting at, if it's not common, why the hell not? I'll even go so far as to say the M4 is TOTALLY the wrong weapon for fighting a "war" with huge amount of open terrain and a fixed "front line". IMO these guys should get all three, sidearm is a given, and have a UMP AND an M14 in the vehicle to choose from depending the situation. And they should be getting plenty of paid range time on all three. Also, LVL 3 plates probably would have saved this guy's life.

ETA: Damn it, the more I think about it, why the hell isn't the military out there? If it isn't for defending our borders then ?!?!?!?
