    LEO Rifles

Are most LEO's running SBR's in their patrol cars? From my point of view it makes much more sense to run a SBR then a longer carbine.

Do the swat teams run SBR's or what is the SOP for your department?

Are LEO's allowed to run suppressors too?

I was never fortunate enough to work with a rifle/carbine in the car, always had a shotgun though. They are optional now at my last agency, but they keep the carbine in the trunk, not up front.

Most of what I see in units around here and 16 inch barreled Colts and clones, set up in the M4 style. Rarely have I seen true SBR deployed with patrol in my neck of the woods. SWAT guys... yeah they have them.

LEOs can use SBR and suppressors, however both have to be agency owned and issued. No personal ownership allowed on those two types of item. The only suppressors I've seen commonly used have been on MP5s deployed by the SWAT guys.

All of the patrol rifles in my department are 16"Colt L/E AR carbines. I carried my issued Colt M-4(14.5")for many years in my car.

I was a member of the SWAT team, which were issued Colt M-4s.
LEOs are allowed to run suppressors. I used a MP5 SD for several years.

If PDs want to have SBRs in the patrol car they just have to go through the added paperwork through BATFE for them. Paperwork can take several months to go through. Our 16" patrol rifles had no issue with the length to fit into the center lock, so SBRs weren't necessary.

Have any officers had a loss of hearing from his charging rifles?

I've mainly notice 16" barrels on patrol rifles. However, I've also seen "M16" marked lowers with happy holes and all. I got to take one down and inspect the FCG. It was missing a few key parts for FA use. But legally, it was a MG even though the deputy told me it wasn't.

We have 11.5" Colt's in the cars and use 11.5" Colt's with fire selectors for SWAT.

Suppressors have been discussed as an option on SWAT.

Depts get used M16s from the army for 6 dollars and then covert them to semi auto.

Yep, I just thought it was strange that the officer was not aware that it is still considered a MG.

SWAT is moving to SBR's and us lowly non-alphabet patrol guys run 16".

Wouldn't it be smarter to issue all officers suppressors?

I'd guess that 99% of the leos out there would not know that. Chances are that he could go his whole career without finding any application for that knowledge.
