My wife is pissed, Her sister's daugter just told her that 9 years ago. When she was 9, that one of their brother in laws molested her (a uncle by marriage). Can they still report it to get this *******. After 9-10 years. She is going to be 19 now and i guess it just came out.

statute of limitations changed a few years ago.. report it..
Greebo, as a matter of feline pride, would attempt to fight or rape absolutely anything, up to and including a four-horse logging wagon. Ferocious dogs would whine and hide under the stairs when Greebo sauntered down the street. Foxes Kept away from the village. Wolves made a detour. Terry Pratchett

Report it....It may not go anywhere, BUT if he did it to her, he might be doing it to someone else.

Statute of limitations for child molestation was 6 years until 1994, at which point it was upped to 10 years. There are some provisions in the '94 law that allowed prosecutions even beyond that limit, but some of that was struck down by the US Supreme Court in '03.. But since this is within 10 years, you're good to go.. just call up the PD where the crimes occurred and ask to speak with a sex crimes investigator.

She is 19 years old, which is an adult. It happened to her and she is the only one who was there and who really knows what happened. If she doesn't want to do anything, than I think that is selfish and also evil to allow someone who could be hurting people to go on and I would totally hate her for that. But it isn't the right of anyone else to "report it" since they don't even know what happened. It's sad but I think it is true

She's an adult now, what does she want to do? If you speak up and she leaves you holding the bag, you'll have opened a door you probably can't close.

You could offer (strenuously) to accompany her on a trip to speak with an officer about her "funny" uncle.

She needs to report it. If she refused to, she will have to take some responsibility for anyone else he assaults.

Contrary to public opinion, the minds of sexual deviates are very intricate and sophisticated. They will continue to be preditors until they are stopped, arrested or die. Therefore, the victim in this particular case would have absolutely no responsibility to anyone if this suspect were to victimize others.

While I understand where you are coming from and agree with you on a legal basis. I'm looking at it from a moral standpoint. This victim is starting to deal with her pain and has the ability to STOP the molester (by reporting him) from continuing his practices with other victims. So, since she seemingly has the power to stop him, if she chooses to not report him and let him continue to live his life unchecked, would she not be morally responsible for his attacking other children? I do realize that this is a very complex issue and, in fact, I see her current situation as an extension of her abuse. I just hope she can find the strength and support she needs to stop her abuser once and for all. Otherwise, she will continue to be a victim until she is able to stand up and stop him from controlling her life.

You must report it. He'll hurt more kids. And you'll be aiding that by keeping your mouth shut.

Like what exactly happened. Inappropriate hugging or touching outside the clothing or was it more..?...It makes a difference.

Before moving on with this situation, a conversation needs to happen.

In anycase, as an adult, it would be her call.

She will need support and counseling, not judgement and condemnation. SHE didn't do anything wrong.

It is easy for someone who has not been in her position to try to blame her for something if she doesn't report it. That is just wrong on so many levels.
