believe me, there are things you can do, in police work, with a 26" piece of hickory that you wouldn't even try with a collapsible baton...plus it makes a very cool hand rest if you pivot it in it's ring sideways

I do that now with my rotating scabbard.

you can get both hands on a baton, while still in the ring, at the same time

"Five From the Sky" says it all.

The collapsables are nice and compact, but a real PR-24 or hickory straight stick has no equal in a collapsable.

It was called 'stick time' for a reason.

grab a dymondwood and never look back, remember to wrap the handle with tennis racket grip tape or paracord so it is more comfortable in your hands...don't want to risk getting a blister now do ya'

I'd grab a straight stick over an ASP/collapsable any day. But yeah, don't lube it. A guy in my old department did that and the thing would stay open or shut.

                Closing a collapsible baton

I have encountered this problem many times. It locks out and is very difficult to close. I see on every forum telling you to just smash it down on the cement. This will work but if you look at your extended baton you will see a slight curve in it (very slight). You tap the tip so the curve straightens out. It takes a little practice but after a while you can easily see the curve and tap it gently to release the 'lock'. There is no need to smash the tip endlessly on the hard ground.
