I recently dug out my Hoyt holster. It was made in '83 and is personalized with my name, department, and employee number.

I'm going to clean it up and use it when I shoot my revolvers. My S&W models 15, 18, and 66 will fit in it. They were very fast at the draw.

funny you mention that because my friend and I who want to be LEO's, always joke about carrying a ninja sword and seeing the reaction on peoples face. lol

I'm not aware of an "awe factor", and I did carry a 1911 for a while.

As noted above, six inch barreled revolvers usually got noticed by bad guys. I remember one who shouted out, "don't shoot me with that cannon" when he got a six inch model 66 leveled on him.

          That musta been impressive!

I'm guessing he meant something along the lines of this. But like Ron said, I don't think it matters when it pointed at you!

When I see a 1911 I know it only holds 8 or 7 rounds but when I see a Glock 21 I know it holds 13+1 so you tell me what you want to go against 8 or 14?
I want to go 8 well placed shots as opposed to 14 trigger jerked shots

I actually had a gang banger ask me about my 1911 .45. He asked if it was a .45 & I said yep. He then pointed my partner's Glock 17 and asked how many rounds that held. I mentioned about 16 plus one. I then told him mine held eight plus one. He asked why I didn't carry the Glock with the extra bullets. I told him I didn't need it and that my partner is such a horrible shot he needed all the extra bullets he could carry. He laughed and his buddies just snickered.

I believe Mas Ayoob wrote an article about a felon who was stopped by a copper. The cop had a 1911 and was sharply dressed in uniform. The felon (who was later arrested) decided not to take him on. The felon commented on the 1911 and how the cop looked. This article was written a LONG time ago.

Thankfully, the last time I had to engage my sidearm was back in the middle 80s when I carried my 6" Colt Python. I wish I could still carry that bad boy today!! I was 2 for 2 with that beauty and I miss carrying it to this very day. Even if I had missed the perps I would have flame burned thier eyelids shut!!
