    1911 "Respect"

    LEOs only please:

I was talking to a copper from somewhere in LA Co. He said how BGs tend to respect someone (LEO) who's carrying a 1911 more than a Glock, Beretta, etc. The reason being that the BGs know you're probably more serious about your handgun and it probably means you're more of a "gun guy."

Any of this make any sense, or was he bamboozling me?

Never heard of it. When the pistol comes out of the holster, it doesn't matter if it is a 1911 or not. They probably respect a gun with a laser more when they see a red dot on their chest.

A 1911 doesn't get their attention as well as the good old 6" barrel Stainless Steel Revolver such as a Python, Smith K or L frames used to in the good old days when they came flying out of a Hoyt breakfront at near light speed.

The business end of anything 9mm or larger will get their attention. 12 gauges are really good for that too.

Some agencies only allow their SWAT officers to carry a 1911. I suppose some crooks in those cities might know what a 1911 is, and know the policy.

Agree with Top and Ron - I've never experienced any disrespect for carrying or drawing down with a wimpy little old 9mm...

And, as Ron mentioned, I can't think of a more immediately noticeable/recognizable or attention grabbing sound than the racking of a shotgun...

It is interesting that you memtioned the Hoyt holster. I found my Hoyt holster for 6" S&W model 686 the other day when I was looking for something else. It brought back a memory.

Never heard of it while "engaged", but I've often had crooks point out that I'm not carrying the issue gun and ask "Is that a .45"?

I've never heard of it, but I also work for a department that only authorized one type of handgun for duty carry. There are a few grandfathers that can carry 1911s but I only know one person that does. I went to the academy the year after they made the switch, so I missed that boat. Of course most of the time I hear the peanut gallery calling my Sig a Glock and my AR a chopper.

I've never heard of that either, maybe respect from other LEO's and gun-nuts who can appreciate a fine weapon but not from any shady character.

I think it's more along of the reputation of an agency or department that gets the most "respect". I'm sure many of the LEO here have run into or worked at a smaller city agency that are armed to the teeth with the best equipment and training and vice versa a large state/fed agency that thinks having a weapon is a hindrance to public relation.

he should carry a TiN and tiger striped Desert Eagle in 50AE because it will give him more street cred

Never heard of it... then again, I'm trying to get the brass to let me pack a medieval battle ax... now THAT would intimidate!

A 1911 is a sign of man hood , when you shoot someone with a 1911 they do back flips where a Glock they just laugh at you and tell you to get a real gun like a 1911.

When I see a 1911 I know it only holds 8 or 7 rounds but when I see a Glock 21 I know it holds 13+1 so you tell me what you want to go against 8 or 14?

Never heard about it before. 1911s are nice guns but it doesnt make you more of a "man" or a better shot because your wilson combat cost 3k. In fact I shoot way better with my plastic glock than the few guys who shoot the 1911s.
