32 years is amazing, as far as the injury, I know where your coming from...With the exception that I work for a great group of leaders (wich is rare). You gave your share and then some! Hope you get better soon.

4 years 10 months and 6 days to go as of today. Maybe 2 more years as an option. It will give me 28+ years. (2nd half of March of 2015)

I wish you luck Eric. I've had 4 spinal surgeries; 3 of which were fusions, so I can commensurate with you. I had to retire at 27yrs in '03 tho I didn't want to. Take care and if you get to feeling down about your back, feel free to pm me to vent or ask questions.

Good to see a few other old guys here and some more that are near the half way point. This has been a great career for me but I must be honest and say I agree with El Gato and his comment....3 bad days in a row!! I do enjoy teaching the youngsters how to be good deputies and I would miss that a lot. But, there is plenty of my life I have put on hold for the good of the dept, the citizens of the communities I have worked and in the old days, for the partners I worked patrol with and I am more than ready to start enjoying the life on the other side of the star.

It appears the county is going to offer us a one time buy out of our contractual raises at pennies on the dollar. I'm not afraid to say they can KMA because if that happens I'll be gone before July 1 and they'll have to pay me.

So far, it appears those of us with less than 2 years to go really impact the averages.

So far, the average length of service until retirement is just over 15.1 years.

                          Damn....I feel lucky!!!

Well, let's see. I'm 53 and life expectancy is. . .what. . .76 or something like that. . .so probably 23 years to go, more or less.

I'm 43 and it will depend. (e.g. if I win the lottery, or if I'm enjoying what I'm doing and working with/for some great people, or if I get fed up with all the BS, etc...)

I was told that the life expectancy is about 5 years after retirement. Too bad. I may have to keep working until I die. I know a deputy retired in 60's and recently passed away in his 90's. Good for him.
