I just heard his mother-in-law on ABC Radio News. She was one of the witnesses today at the Toyota Brake Recall hearings in Washington, D.C. She had that unmistakable Filipina accent, so I Googled her and found instead her lost loved ones.

The incredibly ironic aspect of their deaths is they were using a loaner car, a 2009 Lexus. But for that damned car they'd prolly still be alive.

I watched the Congressional hearings with Toyota today. The issues lies with the Electronic Throttle Module which is faulty, which is also interconnected to the pedal. The odd thing is that theres 2 different versions of the pedals one which is the JDM version is sold to vehicles in Japan and the Eastern region, then 2nd being the North American Version which is made by a subcontractor hired out by Toyota with the sticky pedal. It was interesting to the the President and the CEO get nailed in the Hot seat

is this in the drive by wire system only ?

I believe so. All others use Pedal linkage to the intake throttle body which has a sensor called the mass air flow sensor sending a signal to the ECU like 95% of cars made since the 80's and until recently

Very sad. I remember when this happened. The AMC police Matador had a problem similar to this. AMC investigated the problem for the department I worked for and there recommendation was to turn OFF the ignition with the key. It won't turn all the way to get the key out but it will turn enough to turn the engine off. If you don't know this that Matador with the HP 401 V8 would get up to about 150 mph.

People tend to panic in a situation, I woulda have slammed the gear shifter into neutral who cares if the motor over revs and blows up. But he was approaching a busy intersection down here in San Diego so..

These technologies were developed for F16s and Jet fighters which were digital fly by wire, until recently they started using them in high end performance cars. But this appears to be a obvious software glitch.

There was a report of a lady whose car did the same thing and she tried to put it into neutral and it still kept going.

From what I understand, he did shift to different gears but nothing happened. Same thing with the woman who testified before Congress. The car kept going.

Based on sources close to the investigation, he did everything he could to stop the vehicle. Everything mentioned and more was attempted but obviously did not work.
