Again, your not gonna get 600 hp from simple bolt ons unless your rockin an 03-05 mustang cobra, or vette...And if you are rockin those kind of cars, your not gonna waste your time or car, street racing. Just not worth losing your car for that.

Do I think some of these laws are stupid? YES....but they were caused by CARB and put in place for our "safety" against "harmful" polutants. Thats was it is so hard to get parts CARB approved. Those laws were just swooped up by LE to help get racers off the streets.

To me, it sounds like the CHP was profiling behavior.
CARB is a joke, did it help with older cars? Yes it did help to reduce pollutants but with todays modern cars most of which put out ZERO emissions even when modified, the whole Smog Check program is nothing more than a revenue maker and completely useless with todays computer controlled vehicles.

And the newer mustang can get close to 500 hp with bolts ons. A supercharger is a bolt on.

      I don't think he did know, I didn't. I still might not.

If I understand you correctly (and I might not), he has a bunch of add ons and performance boosting parts so that when people give him crap for not having a fast car he can say that he does? Who is giving him crap?

I think it is interesting that someone would be so immature and/or unsure of themselves that they would buy a bunch of expensive parts to add on to their car to deflect criticism from others (would really like to know who) but too mature to be talked into racing said car.

I gotta agree with B.D. not sure what you mean either since in the quote above you say if someone messes with him he has to back it up. So I take that as if someone was to pull up next to him and rev their engine he would automatically take off racing when the light turned green.

Hmm that sounds like street racing and something that should not be done PERIOD! That is exactly the type of behavior that caused these laws to come into effect.

well he simply likes working on his car, adding all sorts of junk to it he doesn't NEED. It's a hobby, he could have just bought a fast stock car where is the joy in that?

It's same with ARs, no one needs a bayonet and a grenade launcher, it's just nifty to have. I don't condone street racing, my friends and I both respect other drivers on the road and try our best not to place the lives of others in danger. But you must admit you guys do like pulling on your car every now and then. I mean what fun is a z06 if you can't pull it every now and then ?

Cams were swapped when the head gasket was replaced. It was a pretty simple procedure, granted I didn't do it, but a friend did while I observed.

You seem like you're not going to budge from your "All non-grown men street race, no matter what" pov so I'll keep out of here from now on.

Not an LEO, but I think that any effort to get street racers off the road is a good thing. They have no care or respect for the damage their hobby can cause on innocent bystanders, so they rank up there with gang bangers and lawyers.

Your correct and if you go back and read one of my other posts in this thread you will see I support that 100%. What I do not support is randomly pulling people over because their car looks modified and then hammering them for things and/or impounding the car. Or pulling someone over for a small infraction and then hammering them.

If I am not mistaken refusal to let them look under your hood will result in the impounding of your vehicle.

I agree CARB is a joke! All im saying is that the origin of the laws were for emission standards. LE just uses those laws to remove cars that are involved in street racing.

You have fun with that unsupported 500 HP! Just tell me where to show and watch it go!!

I can't quote the CVC section from memory, but there are circumstances where one cannot refuse the underhood inspection. A dim license plate light can be used as good RS/PC for a stop if the plate cannot be seen at the distance proscribed in the CVC. As far as "real" violations, there are literally thousands of violations listed in the CVC. Not having a front plate may not be as dangerous or "real" as speeding through a school zone, but it is still a violation. I'm sure every LEO on this forum has stories about catching real badguys with real bad things off of minor traffic stops.

These guys are pro LEO and all looking into public service careers after they finish their military service.

Being young men they ARE getting tired of being pulled over for no real reason.

I never see CHP stopping motorcycles for open mufflers, why, because politicians, judges, lawyers, CHP, SO and police drive motorcycles.

Always sorry so see anyone get hurt by a bad guy, sorry about that.

Are you sure about that????? Motorcycles last summer (in my area) where getting lite up for everything under the sun....I know because I was one of then, three times in 2 week period commuting from work. What sucks is one Azzhole riding a sport bike (out runs CHP) makes my week of commuting suck.......

This is so true! If modified exhaust was purely about noise or air pollution it would have applied to motorcycles too. I lived near a busy road for 6 miserable months and cringed every time a Harley drove by.

On a side note I sure miss my fully modified 500 hp 300ZX Twin Turbo Damn CA CARB laws..
