That's not what they are looking for with these types of stops and they will pull you over based solely on the appearance of your vehicle.

Word. I used to get crap all the time. I drive an import with a not so settle paint job, shiny wheels and, at the time, an aftermarket exhaust (was not louder then the limit) and some side skirts from the newer year but same model car. The car was also lower then the legal limit but not slammed to the ground.

Now, I'm not here crying because I was pulled over, I knew full well what did to my car was frowned on. But it was funny to see cops go out of their way to pull me over just because of that, not because I was doing something wrong. I don't condone street racing, I don't do it. I also don't do burn outs in parking lots or weave in an out of traffic. I did what I did to my car solely because I liked the way my car looked.

Since moving to Elk Grove and getting pulled over once here, I've replaced the stock exhaust and removed the side skirts and haven't had a problem. Probably just jinxed myself though...

I tried to give you some idea about what my car looks like yet not tell you exactly what I drive... I don't want to be driving down the road and have people waving at me just because of this post lol.

Anyway, to get to my point of my post, I've always wondered what the justifications or "probable causes" are for searching a car. The OP said that his son was driving a stock car and obeying all laws, but yet his hood was popped? That's a little sketchy to me. Could they have just said no?

i drive a scion xb and although I've put a lot into it and enjoyed showing it for 3 years, i made sure to not touch the engine at all. it's just not worth the hassle in a 105 horsepower car. I don't even like driving near placerville because I have to downshift so much just to keep up with traffic. I guarantee I'll never get a speeding ticket going up 80 or 50 for that same reason!

As for profiling, it may not be due to "looking" like a racer. I went with my friend in his 1990-something toyota previa to a local car meet, and his info ended up getting pulled, despite the fact he was completely stock. His car had "no record of being imported" despite having a title and all documentation... Just shows that they are usually looking at every car.

Sure, they may never street race but they sure often speed and violate other rules of the road. Who modifies a car for speed and then drives like grandma? Very few.

People who take it to the track and do it where it is suppose to be done.

And there are many of those.

So your saying that people who do not own modified vehicle's never speed or break other rules of the road when in their vehicles?

This type of thing is no different than saying people that own black rifles are going to kill people. After all isn't that what those types of rifles are designed for.

You mean like this one? Curious to know how do they pose more of a danger? Is it because it can drive over the top of both of yours? Well then maybe we should crackdown on Firetrucks after all there big to. While were at it lets get rid of Semi's they are the biggest vehicles on the road. There are already rules in place for trucks. They cannot be over certain height with the lifts.

The problem is, as usual, with laws that instead of punishing the actual crime punish possession of something that could potentially be used in a crime. of course, it's easier and safer to prosecute and legislate that, but at the same time it plays to the way too often used "guilty until proven innocent" principle.

Basically, we punish the possession of a gun, or a specific kind of gun, instead of punishing shooting someone unjustifiably.

I posted on here earlier but I don't see my post. How weird. A few years ago I was driving a rice rocket myself, police would pull me over more often than others for strange reasons. My friend was pulled over in his 2000 Civic SI because his plate light wasn't bright enough for the cop to read his plate from 100 ft or something stupid. I have had my hood popped several times as well. Generally the cops are nice to us though.

I think the cops should be more concerned about lifted trucks and SUVs that pose a greater threat on the road than a small underpowered Japanese car.

I deleted your post because of what you wrote, which is much what you wrote here. Here is your original post with some editing.

My friend got pulled over in a 2000 Civic SI because the cop couldn't read his license plate for 100 ft away or something retarded. We were respectful so he "let us go" haha.
                            .

Making statements like that is leo bashing. If you read the rules in the sticky, you will note that isn't permitted. Simple as that. You did it again in this post where I bolded it. Don't do it again.

If you have a civil question to ask, do so.

You CAN be pulled over for a dim plate light. It needs to illuminate the plate at 50 feet for it to be legal.

Sorry I disagree. Coming from both sides of the issue, (used to do A LOT of street racing when I was just out of high school) I never met someone who modified their cars with simple bolt ons and didn't street race. I not talking about the fast and furious types alone, Im including stop light to stop light racing as well. The guys that are doing complete drive train build ups are not going to waste time(or car) street racing, but they are a huge minority, and their cars are not daily drivers.
