I forgot all about those. I was going to go with one of those but the instructor I was going to use didn't teach them. I am going with a different instructor though so I'll check and see if he is certed to teach those and see how much it would be to add that style. An ex MP I know told me that the training is exponentially more involved with those than straight batons.

When I was issued my PR24, it was shiny and black in color. When I turned it in to logistics decades later, there was still some black color on it and it was not as shiny.

Now, before anyone gets the wrong idea that it ended up that way from being struck against bodies, I need to make the record clear. Whenever I went to a 459 business call and the large plate glass windows were broken, I used my baton to break the guillotine type pieces hanging from the top.

I wasn't about to take any chances walking thru that. Other than the bag at Lkd. station and my partner in the academy, that's the only thing that baton touched.

I've used the biggest and smallest sized asps, and a staight stick in the academy. The striaght stick hit was harder then the asp, but the noise an asp makes is like a shotgun racking, makes people think twice. I like the monadnock side handle because you still get the noise, and can strike from the ring/holster if you get charged.

Sarco, does it hit as hefty as the asps? I called Peacekeepers about a half hour ago and they said the 29" one weighed only 18.5 ounces. I think that is about 30% less than others. Have you noticed any issues as far as striking force goes?

Don't worry, the RCB definitely hits harder than the ASP.

I am going to pick up Bobula's asp and if that for some reason doesn't do it for me I'll get a RCB. I don't think I'll be having to use it very much.

Question, if simple possession is a felony, how does that apply to tonfa or other martial art weapons for a practitioner of said martial art? I've trained with sifus using what were essentially a short pair of wooden sticks that could fit the bill of a club. Or are collapsing batons the only item that PC applies to?

Yes sir....just don't take it outside..or at least into public.

One of my beat partners carries the Winchester collapsible. That thing is friggin' huge.

I carried an ASP while assigned to courts and for a few years when I rotated to patrol. I never had any use for it and I hated the noise it made when running so I took it off. STILL have yet to come across a need for it while still in patrol. I do however keep my issued wooden straight in the car though.

I have a PR24 kicking around in the closet that's brand new...think I'm gonna sell it.

Possession is a Felony. Maybe the OP's "Friend" was referring to the likelihood of having said baton or dagger at one's home and the chances of being arrested/prosecuted for it (almost nil)...

Simple possession of a baton unless properly permitted is a felony under 12020 PC, even at home.

Daggers only fall under 12020 PC if they are concealed upon the person.

Get a good Louisville Slugger to keep at home for playing ball.

Actully, outside of a martial arts studio, they are illegal also. They all fall under the definition of a billy.

Another relic of the old days that has laid to rest. Now due to MFF issues, only straight sticks or collapsibles are allowed. Can't do all those slick moves we learned in the academy.

Do not got with an autolock monanock. I had one and on the first training day with it, I broke it. I recommend the RGB Peacekeeper. Its an expensive baton but it is the best expandable I ever used or saw. And if you can break it your superman.
