OH and I remember NEVER I mean never dump the brass into your hand. Anyone remember why? I do........ I'll give you a hint CHP......

One of our officers did something similar, and it was about the same times as the CHP fiasco.
He was hit and down, had fired his last round in the revolver. He dumped the empties into his hand, dumped his dump pouch in his hand, and loaded one loaded round and one empty round into his revolver..............and shot the perp in the foot. .........................as that was all he could see of the perp. The perp had also already been hit, and was down, behind the corner of a house with only his foot visible.
Perp managed to crawl around to the front of the house, where a passing CHP officer spotted him and opened fire.........through the rear window of his moving patrol car. Landing 6 rounds somewhere in the neighborhood. One of them going through the wall of the house behind the perp, down the hall way, and lodging in the wall just above the commode.
Our officer survived, the perp did not.

Gotta realize that Jerry Miculek in his 2.99 second - 12 round burst with a reload was not using speedloaders... Moon clips all the way.. We had a class with him after he shot that and he said to us that he actually fumbled the reload a little. There are very few people who can reload as fast as him.. and I know a few very good revolver shooters.. M and GM class..

Topgun, would I be right in guessing you had the SS 66 or whatever it was) since you paid $165. They only charged $150 for the Model 15 in blue. I wanted to buy the SS because it was SS and also a .357, but I was told you could only buy your issued gun. When I said I knew they had plenty of the SS available (they did), I received the standard bureaucratic reiteration: "You can only buy the one issued to you, that's what I was told."

I was issued a brand new Smith & Wesson model 67, 38 Special. I used it for academy only. When I graduated, I went to model 686 with Hoyt holster. I still have the Hoyt. I like it.

Yeah, I know its moon clips but it wouldn't make much difference if it were speed loaders.

Dade loaders are very, very fast. I have some in my collection as well. As fast as Comp III with practice. Just don't drop them and expect your rounds to stay in them.

My best time, way back when, for 12 rounds using HKS loaders (which were issue at the time) was about ten seconds. So Jerry Miculek is really a god, even if he was using moon clips.

With moons, I can usually do a draw, fire 6, reload, fire 6 in under 8 seconds.. While Jerry is blazing fast, he did his 6, reload 6 from a low ready.. not from a draw.. likely would have added another .5 second or so to it.

On my best day with moons it takes me about 2.25 seconds to do a reload.. Remember, this is my best day.. on my worst day I fumble the moon clip, it drops and I grab another and I'm lucky if I get it all done in about 15 seconds. Avg time is about 2.75 - 3 secs per reload.

I find that my reloads with a 6 shooter and moons goes faster than an 8 shooter and moons.. but I have a lot more trigger time with the 6 vs 8 shooter.

I don't know what a Dade loader is.. Never seen one.. I have seen people chop up the Comp III's so that there is little left except a little bit to retain the rounds. They even make polymer moons but those don't work too well in anything other than the 610 platform. They are too loose for retaining 45 acps on a belt or in a pocket and just right for 40 S&W or 10 mm ammo in the 610. Hearthco moons are the premium for competitors but TK custom makes decent clips also. Depending on firearm, I use all three.

These are Dade loaders...



The rims of the rounds are held in by the copper spring around the top. To use them, you just push the big button on top and in they go. Very fast, just not very secure. The rounds also rattle a bit as there is nothing to stabilize them. With smaller diameter rounds like .38/.357 there is sometimes a bit of jiggling involved to line them up with the cylinder. Larger rounds they are almost like moon clips, dro pright in.
