Thanks for posting that video, it brought back so many memories. Sherman Block (the heavy set man in the suit) was the Sheriff back then. I worked with many of those deputies that were in the video and I really enjoyed seeing them.

The one who gave the "mouth to mouth" on the little boy is still on and I believe he is a Capt., possibly a Commander by now. The deputy to the right of the guy in the wolfman costume is the one responsible for the making of that video as he worked in the media unit. He is a great guy and retired earlier this year IIRC. We worked the jail together 1976-1980.

I had my department id with Sherman Block's signature until 2 years ago, but finally got busted and had to get a new id with Lee Baca's signature. Rats!!

The department promised that they will give my old id back to me in an arcrilic enclosure when I retire.

40 years ago this month I started the Police Academy in KC,MO. After 8 years with 2 agencies I re-enlisted in the Marines in 1980 and spent 3 years at Camp Pendleton, as an MP. In 1981 I was assigned to the Special Enforcement Branch as a sniper.
In 1982 I was with the 1st group of 8 Marines that attended Special Weapons training at LASD. On the day we were to shoot at the combat range, the deputies from the Lynwood Station were re-qualifying, so our instructors put us in relays with the deputies.
Using a Govt. issue .45, I shot a perfect score.
The deputies couldn't believe they were outshot by a Marine. When one of the instructors told them I had been a cop in MO, they decided it was ok to be outshot by another cop.
At least the Marines thought it was funny.
I learned a lot from our instructors at LASD, that is one of the best organizations I have ever been associated with.
I spent another 13 years at Pendleton, as a civilian detective.
