    LAPD/LASD humor

The academy story Lt.Mike mentioned in another thread reminded of this old joke I heard awhile back. Those here who are LASD, will appreciate this more due to the friendly (for the most part) rivalry the dept.'s have with each other.

It seems both a LAPD officer and a LASD deputy were using the same public restroom at the same time. They both happened to be at the urinal (different ones in case you guys have gutter minds) taking care of business.

Both being somewhat savvy, they figured out the other was a leo and began talking about who they worked for.

When the LAPD officer finished, he went to the sink and washed his hands. When he began drying them, the LASD deputy finished and began to walk toward the exit.

The LAPD officer said to him, "They taught us in the academy to wash our hands after going to the bathroom."

The LASD deputy responded, "They taught us in the academy not to piss on our hands."

Fire in the Hole, you are correct and it is also why I said (for the most part).

I was working patrol when that incident occurred. The deputies involved went to all of the units to show that video. It was the funniest thing we ever saw.

Somehow, a copy ended up on the LAPD's Chief's desk also.

It could have ended up very differently because from what the deputies told us, they honestly thought they were going to be shot. Because of that fear, they told us they had been whispering to each other to go for their guns and try to shoot the LAPD guys to save themselves. Just before they made their move, the incident came ended and all ended well thankfully.

I remembr it very well. It was 1987. I think that video made it around the whole USA. It was shown to the cadets in my old academy, by the staff for several years. I talked to Deputy Sheriffs in MO, NE, WY, UT and ID that have seen it.

LASD: The most tactical department, ever.

For those of you who don't remember, LASD was chasing a car around Compton(Compton PD dissolved a few years prior), and when the car moved towards the officers...oops...I mean deputies, they fired on the car.

Problem was that the deputies were in semi-circle with car in the middle. Of course, LASD being the most tactical department, not many got hurt. What is missing from video is that one deputy pointed the pistol right at the camera while trying to tell the cameraman to move back(for safety, not out of malice)

Of course, LASD, not wanting to kill a person, shot 110-120 rounds(there were many deputies there that night), but hit the driver only 4 times, none of them critical.

Haha, I remember watching the video at my shift briefing. It feels like it was only yesterday.

You must be talking about 2005 Compton shooting. I was one of the crime scene person doing CSI at the crime scene. There were a lot of speculations by people without knowing the facts. As a matter of fact, it is a common phenomenon involving officer/deputy involved shootings.

Actually, I had to called Larry Elder on the way back from the Compton shooting, because I couldn't stand hearing people talking crap about the deputy involved shooting without knowing what was going on. I told him to tell people to shut up and wait for the complete investigation.

I remember that video from back in the day. It was hilarious. LASD has always had a great sense of humor. Remember the "I love L.A." video they did?
