    LASD Rejection Letter

Ok over the past months I have been going about trying to become a Deputy Sheriff trainee, after passing my polygraph, and passing my coopers evaluation with flying colors and having my pack turned in I received a letter informing me that I was not suited for the job because of issues involving "JUDGEMENT", but as to no explanation why this has come about, i did get into some trouble when I was around 13 years old but since then have straightened up and haven't had any other incidences minor traffic tickets but nothing out of the ordinary, is there something I need to do to go about finding out why I was rejected, and can anyone here help with what it might have been, I greatly appreciate it

Define 'minor traffic tickets'. Seatbelts? Or stop signs and red lights? That's probably it if it's more than 2 in a short period.
It cannot be inherited, nor can it ever be purchased.
You and no one alive can buy it for any price. It is impossible to rent and cannot be lent.
You alone and our own have earned it with...Your sweat, blood and lives. You own it forever.

        The title is....."United States Marine".

Damn, that sucks to get an LASD rejection letter.

I think as Unit74 is replying with his question, I think it might have to do with age also. If you are still around the 19-23 age, they might figure your discrepancies are very recent and that you might not have aged or matured in their eyes in a proper way. Add to the fact that you might (hypothetically speaking) have a bad credit score, debt problems, and excessive driving record are all considered negative marks on your evaluation. Even though it might be far from the truth, psychologists in many depts have found people like that are more likely to become bad apples.

But its definitely not the end of the world. Many LEOs have been rejected by one agency only to be taken on by others that have a less stringent policy as LASD. If LE is your concrete career path, try LAPD and/or any of your smaller city police depts. that don't use LASD Academy for their POST training and certification.

We had interns that passed all of our tests, worked for the dept. for a few years and then failed to get on the dept. as a deputy (lasd). All the ones I know, were hired with other depts. as officers and turned out pretty well as far as I know.

In other words, don't give up.

Are there even any police depts. that you know of that don't require polygraph testing?

I would believe almost every single federal and local government agency that requires carrying loaded firearms as part of your daily job would require a polygraph test. It can't be that surprising to you.

My credit isnt terrible, I've had 1 credit card that I never paid a late payment and had it payed off within a year, when I told my friends and my instructors what the letter said they were shocked, judgment reasons couldnt be further from wrong, i have never once in my life, smoked anything, drank any kind of alcohol, never abused any type of medication or other forms of substance abuse, I dont party, I work, I train and im restoring my mustang, these are the things my weeks consist of, i'm always the DD for anyone and everyone who needs it and cant be more astonished I was rejected for reasons of judgment
what concerns me about the letter is it says this
                          "This disqualification may be permanent..."

Your just a baby in terms of hiring. 21 is like 16 in law enforcement. Yea, your old enough on paper. But what have you done in life? What worldly experience do you bring to the table to be able to manage everyone else's problems?

Also, please tell me you don't have all kinds of crap on a Facebook or other social network? The first place an investigator will go is the internet to find out who you really are when the smile and suit come off.

We don't know your skeletons. But based upon your information provided in a public forum, I'd say your age is an issue that can be directly related to "Judgment". You are not old enough to have experienced enough in life to push a black and white and solve peoples problems with clarity.

Try a few other agencies. But if your luck runs thin, join the military for a few years. My agency seems to hire 30ish officers. We picked up a 27y/o last year from the USMC and he is a go-getter. If you were 21 coming out of the military I think your chances would be better.

Sans any Explorer, military or government work, I don't think you will get hired in today's market. There are far too many laterals bailing out from sinking cities to compete with. Coupled with fewer and fewer agencies hiring, your chances are nil.

I don't mean to burst your hopes, but I won't sugar coat it anything. I don't think you need that kind of lip service right now. You need sound information to make life changing decisions. Take my thoughts and the comments of the other probably more experienced officers commenting on here and pave your own path to your goals.

Don't give up on your dreams either. If you want it, you can make it happen, albeit, the road may get rocky and discouraging most of the way.

I dont have a facebook, I dont have a myspace, I dont have twitter or any of those other useless sites, as far as what I've done in life i think im far ahead of other 21 year olds, I'm a martial arts instructor and have been teaching since i was 17, training since much much younger, i've trained many law enforcement, and military personel, sure i am younge when it comes to my actual age but as far as skill and technique are involved i am very qualified to teach, and i have never had one of my students ever question my ability as an instructor, my asperations were to become a Defense Tactics instructor, sure i'm disappointed but i'm not going to let it stop me, if i need to i'll apply at local city agencies or maybe even Sheriffs departments from other counties, but my next step is to contact my BI and file an appeal.
