    Auto registration

Is a copy of the auto registration acceptable when asked by LEO to produce it during a traffic stop? I have mine photocopied with copies of my insurance cards taped on the back of it. Just curious.

I would take it. I dont really ask for reg as the computer return tells me more about your car than the registration paper does.

It's not specifically addressed in the law. I'm not sure why you are so protective of this. It's your "Pink Slip" that you should covet and never carry in your car.

Facsimile copy would be sufficient per CVC 4454(A)

4454. (a) Every owner , upon receipt of a registration card , shall maintain the same or a facsimile copy thereof with the vehicle for which issued.

        (b) This section does not apply when a registration card is necessarily removed from the vehicle for the purpose of application for renewal or transfer of registration , or when the vehicle is left unattended .

        (c) Any violation of this section shall be cited in accordance with the provisions of Section 40610.

I know allot of people that put a copy in the car. They also black out the addresses. If the car is stolen or broken into that is less info the crook would have.

A copy of the registraion is fine, per 4454(a). Once you've done that, there is no need to carry a copy of the pink slip. If we are talking about the same thing. I remember when the law required you to keep the registration card visible on the steering column.

Yes those are exactly what I'm talking about. The VC gave you three choices, lying it on top of the dash board, attached to the driver's side sun visor, or affixed to the steering column. And that was the law! Remember when every car had curb feelers?

What is this registration on the steering column and curb feelers of which you reference. I know not of these. I believe you two are much older than I am.

I remember my dad's cars having those. I know his 1964 Chevy Impala (I was only a lad of 14) bought new, had the curb feelers; don't remember about the reg. card on the column tho as I was much too young.

The curb feelers used to rub against my pants cuffs every time I walked from the front of the car to the driver's seat...after hand cranking the motor to get it started.

HAH!, I remember both. Wow, I've forgotten about them until it was mentioned. Still remember the noise made by the curb feelers when they rubbed up against the curb.

Better the feelers than the tires or car; which of course, was their purpose.
