Oh well. No more free meals at our expense for him anymore.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

So, many CHP Officers who should have racked one in during felony stops, etc. did not. Newhall changed that policy pretty much overnight.
Believe it or not, Glendora PD had a similar policy still in effect when I was a reserve there in 1977-78. I wrote several memos to the chief until another officer showed me the way to make my own seals. They were made out of solder and were easy to make with just a lighter.

He should have been gassed years ago. He stole those years of life from those officers. Let him burn.

              Amen.

My husband came on in 1974, and he told me this was one of the first incidents they discussed during training to make sure no one else would end up like that.

I Just read about the incident online, its a shame 4 officers had to lose their lives for some sensible SOP's to be instituted.

Here's something I posted on Newhall a few years back.

As long as I live, I'll never forget fighting to stay awake, feeling like Death Warmed Over in a hot sticky classroom in West Sacramento after a miserable morning of PT and drill and trying to figure out why the hell I am 400 miles from home putting myself through this BS, when the lights go off in the class, 4 blanks ring out from the back of the classroom, and the full color image of 4 dead highway patrolmen laying side by side on the slab in the morgue is flashed upon the projector screen. Thats when I realized "It's no joke up here".

Thanks for that rorschach. Great reminder. In case any of you drive the I-5 near Magic Mountain, this killing occurred where the Marie Calander's Resturant is presently located. I place my hand over my heart whenever I drive by there.

GOOD FOR HIM. He needed to go, should have been back in the early 1970's. Its cost the tax payers of this state way too much money to let him live.

I was a relatively new city copper when Newhall went down. I was asked by a CHP Sergeant to be his assistant instructor for felony car stops at the local academy. I was allowed to review the CHP reports/investigations and taught the class for many years. One of the deceased officers actually ejected live rounds from his shotgun during the battle.

One of the results was that many CHP officers began carrying a second gun on their gunbelts; the S&W Mdl. 39 9mm was very popular.

May the perps burn in hell, forever.
