Guess I'm a fossil club member then. I was a freshman in HS, in LA Co. It was big news back then.

You mean we didn't let him go home to die in the bosom of his family? What are we, animals?!

Too bad he didn't do that 30 years ago. I remember the incident well, in addition to the training video LASD did on the incident.

I do remember. I was a Junior in High School. There were several firearms training issues revised after that incident.

Davis is a reminder of the liberal justice system we had. Good riddance to him and Justice Rose Byrd.

This incident was one of the ones that helped instill the "train as you fight" mentality for law enforcement. At least one of the dead CHP officers was found with empty shell casings in his pocket because the Rangemaster at their range required them to pocket their empties when practicing so he had less to clean up.
My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.

Quite true. Additionally the CHP Mgmt. being anal as to policy, had a paper disk insertetd into the chamber of all the shotguns. If a shotshell got racked into the chamber, the paper disk was split. A memo had to be written to expalin why the paper disk had been split. Well who wants to write a memo at the end of shift. So, many CHP Officers who should have racked one in during felony stops, etc. did not. Newhall changed that policy pretty much overnight.

My thoughts exactly. He should have ate his gun that night, like his partner did. But nice to know the last 38 years in prison were so miserable that he decided to end it. Better late then never.

I don't want to sound like I'm inhumanitarian, because I'm not. But in this case, however he died, I hope it was slow, painful, and that he writhed in agony. I met and talked to the widows and orphans of the killed Officers 10 years after the "Newhall Incident". Not a happy time. May God NOT have mercy on his soul.

We can thank "Rosie and the Supreams" for doing away with capital puinishment during that era.

I worked on the Motorola training film about the Newhall Incident as an Sheriff's Explorer... it was pretty graphic and made an overwhelming impression on me at the time. Davis is now facing the judgment from which there is no appeal and no sharp lawyer can get him off from. It's just too bad that it took this long.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

When I was in the Academy they covered this shooting in depth. We trained to not make the same mistakes. Because of that I am here with my family today.

One scumbag down.... Now he will really get what's coming to him at the gates of hell....
