My friend worked corporate security and carries all kinds of licenses including an SMG one still and was told by an fbi agent it was illegal to carry one in CA for whatever reason supposedly due to the armor piercing part so he sold it but he said it was a great gun and would trust his life with it.

I don't think it's true. It's approved by DOJ.

Thats the theory any way. The bullet (civillian round) is made (in theory) to upset after several inches of penetration at a relatively high velocity. After having spent some time shooting the USG model while a resident of of another state, I came to be impressed with terminal velocity results of the round. Dead on at 25 yards and very easy to shoot are positive attributes.

After the event analysis have mostly shown that in a civilian vs. bad guy encounter the number of rounds was a heavy factor in the survivng party. So in a state where 20 round mags were allowed, the scales were heavily tipped against the perp with a 6 round .38 special for instance. Wound channels in mahy cases turned out to be devastating in many or the 5.7 X 28 mm round.

Hmm, judging by responses seems like this caliber is not so popular First hand experience is nowhere to be found...

In my opinion it is quite popular, just not with some crowds.

First hand experience is in short supply. That what makes speculation so interesting.

But we all know, calibre means less than shot placement. Doesn't it?

I just learned recently that there are several individual officers petitioning their departments to allow them to carry this handgun when working special assignments. Most commonly, they are K9 units. This round might be getting more lime light soon via real world experiences.
