Not LEO, yet work SAR and remember one call out and there were agencies from the State who had red dots and not covered by a holster and exposed. It just seemed to me like it would get stuck on with a seatbelt or getting out of a car door fast and the gun would fly out. Or if some super solid holster, the red dot would get crushed or cracked. I am sure they solid, just looked like something that could catch on something since it has a sharp edge angle. Especially in search and rescue type terrain. Probably fine for a patrol rifle, yet just a simpleton's observation because we use ropes and rescue equipment and looks like something could hook on it that is always on the belt. The agency I work with has options for leg holsters and seems probably better. I never had one on my personal pistols, or wear a holster and weapon for a job, so really don't know if that concern is real.

A random comment that I thought about for about for 30 seconds on a call out when I saw it for the first time.

Safariland makes duty holsters with covers for the red dots now.

The standard in tough right now is the Trijicon RMR type 2, Aaron Corwin youtube-sage dynamics, kicks the heck out the pistol optics. The Holosuns are really getting interest now (2020-2021). We will see how they do?

I find the Safariland RDS hood makes the SLS slower to disengage. The Bladetech RDS holster is much quicker to disengage retention. I'm still undecided whether that's a good or bad thing.

With the Safariland, there's two separate motions to release retention--first the thumb moves forward to rotate the SLS out of the way, then the thumb sweeps the ALS back to release the hold on the ejection port.

The Bladetech Blackhawk has a single lever the thumb pushes inward towards the grip which releases all retention mechanisms. This is faster since it's one motion instead of two, but it also seems less secure.

Yes we replicated some of his procedures during our trial test phases. The 508 did very well. We managed to crack the glass during the first day but the optic held zero and the continued to perform as intended. Holosun sent us one to test for 30 days and they were pretty sure that it would pass. I was not sure as I was pretty confident we would be beating the crap out of it (which we did). However, it passed with flying colors and I bought one for myself, the day after returning it to Holosun.

Our tests included such extreme measures as power stroking the optic on wood, cynder blocks, and concrete multiple times. The pistol was dropped from different angles and heights. It was also trampled on and skidded across the ground. The Glock 17 Gen 5 MOS held up beautifully and I still use it as a duty gun.

Total rounds fired were about 5,000 among several shooters.

Great info! Thank you both for sharing the Bladetech and 508.

I am running the 17MOS w RMR/type2 in the above Safariland. From beep to holster to first shot runs from 1 to 1.4-seconds. On draw position 1, rocking the SLS forward with the thumb, getting high on the tang with the web of the hand, thumb rolling back on the ALS, fingers bringing grip up while thumb engages grip...draw position 2 - rock 90-degrees toward target/threat, support hand ready to build grip...
