Yes, but it requires a ammo letter from the commander, much like a gun letter. Who's going to bother their boss for a letter each time they want to purchase ammo, much easier to just do the background. Or buy from Target Sports USA. Will ship with copy of LEO ID.

Yes. According to PC 30352(e)(8) LEOs are exempt from the ammo BG check.

Yes LEO are exempt. Credentials are sufficient documents. You only need a letter from your department if you are a non sworn employee making department orders such as secretary, law enforcement technicians, clerk, logistical officer etc or whatever the department gives the title to make such purchases on there behalf.

Nope. you need a letter just like when the 10 background check for a gun is waived

The problem is that many sales clerks don't know this and it's quicker to just pay the dollar and move on.

I work in LE, I’ve been denied ammo purchases twice. Once back in August due to not purchasing a firearm since moving even though I had the correct information on my DL. I was denied yesterday at a Walmart because the clerk had no idea what she was talking about, she said she couldn’t even run my DL because it didn’t have the federal stuff in the upper right corner.

DOJ adopted the regulation that unless you have a letter from the Head of Dept. you must go through a background check. DOJ requires this from dealers and it doesn't always matter what the PC says. DOJ are the ones telling us to get a letter.

                          Still wrong.

We had a supervisory agent of the DOJ BOF at our department recently and he confirmed that active LEOs are exempt from the all the new ammo laws.

Most of these clerks are making minimum wage and have no idea. TargetSportsUSA is a great sight that is LE friendly.
