LEO ar pistol built

LEO here. Buddy of mine from the department just built a ar pistol. Now i didnt know we are exempt from buying a stripped lower ar so i went and got myself one from my LGS. now question i have, he said i would need a maglock to comply with cali law. So can i used a maglock like the one used from a rifle? Ar maglock, Juggernaut etc. And if so is there anything else to do to make it compliance beside maglock?

I really dont know how he did that. DOJ has specifically told me no to building an AR pistol on a AR lower even for LEO. Ive been told dros all lowers as rifles. Even maglocked...otherwise there would be tons of LEO's making these and selling them PPT just like they do with G5 Glocks...even thou they are not supposed to...

You should seriously consider filing a complaint against whoever you talked to at the DOJ because the amount of misinformation they gave you is astounding.

Other things to keep in mind...

Legally you can only use 10 or less round magazines in it.
If you use a 11+ round magazine in it, then you will have made an assault weapon. [PC 30515(a)(5)]

If the overall length is less than 26", then it can not have a vertical forward grip attached to it.
If it does and you do not have BATFE approval to do so, then you will have made an illegal Title 2 AOW.
^Per BATFE, in order to measure the overall length to determine if a firearm is a Title 1 Handgun or Title 1 Other or Title 2 AOW, the firearm is measured in the shortest possible firing configuration (arm stablizing brace is removed or folded/collapsed if it permanently attached).

Do not attach a shoulder stock to it.
If you do so, then you will have made an illegal Title 2 SBR.

So,can it be any lower DROS'd as a pistol or does it have to be shipped/marked "pistol" only from a supplier?
