Can you imagine what your dispatchers hear that never gets put out.

I've hung out with our call takers, dispatchers, and records for a day. There are significantly worse calls than the ridiculous ones that we do get.

I think the dispatchers save those for fire/EMS. We had a frequent flier that couldn't sleep. At 0330 - 0400. We finally got coppers to go kick her adult son out of bed and take her wherever she wanted to go. It finally stopped after that.

Mostly repeats of what has been said. Seems people suffer from the same stupid everywhere. We are definitely a "No call too small" agency. When i was brand new i was found the humor in telling people how to parent their children as a mid 20's guy with no wife and no children.

"My kid won't go to school" calls always annoyed me quite a bit. They often just want us to come and scare their children into going to school. I always found it prudent to remind the parents my job is not to go around scaring small children.

And five years later when little Thomas fails to yield duringbg a traffic stop and crashes simply because he was unlicensed the parents will complain that ever since Thomas was a little schoolboy he was scared of the police....

Had one the other day where RP wanted us to check on her uncle. Uncle was homeless, bad leg, on crutches, and worried that her uncle may fall or trip into traffic and get hurt.

Found uncle in the system prior to arriving and he had a felony $300k warrant for failing to register. That was a shift killer.

Funny thing is I had seen uncle all day, even before BOW, because I was in the area. He was doing just fine, dancing around on the street corner, minding his own business. Would’ve never known he had a $300k warrant unless his “caring” niece didn’t call us about him.

First thing that comes to mind, but I’m sure there are more.

Noise disturbance of juveniles yelling and screaming st the intersection of walk and don’t walk. At that same intersection is a park, it was about 1pm on a weekend...

At the same park last summer right after the BBQ Becky scandal, someone who lived near the same park at the intersection of walk and don’t walk called to report someone with a grille cooking outside of the designated BBQ area.

Officer Time helped resolve that one. My partner and I located a catering company (taco man) packing their equipment away after a birthday party had started to wind down.

I listen to a police scanner all day while working and it amazes me that calls even go out for stuff like: "my kid won't go to/back to school".

Just a few minutes ago, a concerned (11550) citizen called from a payphone to report Whoopi Goldberg was at a nearby gas station performing resurrections. I didn't enter a call because I'm not sure that's illegal.

Unknown Trouble of a male in a mobile home who is fighting a "striped horse." Sure enough the man was altered and had stolen a zebra from a animal rescue farm and had it in his home.

Got a call of a "woman gasping for air due to poison gas in her bedroom." She said that her neighbors were pumping the poison gas through her open bedroom window. Closing the window, for some reason "wasn't an option."

I found out that she was a frequent flyer, calling every couple of months with the same problem. The solution was to go into her bedroom as she watched, turn up the squelch on my handheld radio so it made that hissing noise, and wave the radio around, "de-poisoning the bedroom."

A couple of months later the "de-poisoning" had worn off and had to be renewed.




Had a woman bring her 5 year old into the station. Wanted me to lock him up for a few hours to show him what it was like and scare him. I told her that I wasn't in the "child scaring business."
