    Ludicrious Calls Responded To

Curious what are the most crazy / waste of time calls you've ever responded to. I listen to the local Fremont police scanner before I fall asleep and a few months ago I remember hearing a call where the part of the dispatch I heard was something like:
    --
RP says their room mate is eating their food from the fridge
Cannot confront room mate because they are scared they will get beat up
Needs a response because their food was stolen
    --

I couldn't believe someone called the police for that and they actually got dispatched.

Are there any ridiculous calls you've ever responded to?

You actually had to respond to it? Can you deny calls like that?

Suspicious package on a bus. It was a empty transparent pink bag, the type the newspaper delivery people put your paper in when it is raining.

        Snake in the parking lot.

        Tortoise in a parking lot.

        Coyote in a field.

I'm guessing you only have to show up if it's a "slow" day? I've listened to Oakland scanner and sometimes I hear the dispatch saying something like:

"RP reported XYZ issue at 17:00" and it's 23:50 when it's being called out..

Second hand from passerby to Sheriffs. Subject on sidewalk waving at passing vehicles

1990 Thanksgiving day, day shift 0600-1400

                    Got a call at 0800 415/BG

Responded to the location, saw what happened, ended up going out of area and arrested the boyfriend for 5 felony counts: Attempted 187. felony vandalism.. and so on. I finished the report before I go home, because of the long weekend.

I missed my Thanksgiving dinner with friends and family because I did not go home until 2000.

Following Monday, the handling detective told me the DA did not file the case, because the girlfriend refused to testify because she still loves him.

                    Oh, well. such is life.

Old man called about a fire hazard.

He said the mirror on his neighbors RV was reflecting the morning sun onto his kitchen window thus the possibility of setting his curtains on fire. I went to the neighbor and asked if I could change the angle on the mirror and he said no problem.

                        Where to begin...

At least a handful of times, someone called in to complain on elementary/middle school aged kids playing basketball on a residential street and/or cul de sac due to either "traffic hazard" or "noise complaint" during the day.

Two black people walking through a "Mexican neighborhood" during the day (and nothing else noted).

"Rattlesnake" on a residential street (gopher snake).

                        Illegal taco truck vendors

Deer in the roadway (not dead, just that it was walking across at one point).

Out of control four, five, six, seven, or eight year olds.

Neighbor dispute over a wrapper from a trash can being blown into another's yard (first time complaint; not an ongoing issue).

Someone paid $100 for a brand new $700 computer that "fell off the back of a UPS truck" but turned out to be bricks in a computer box.

I'm sure I have forgotten a few other winners as well.

Bear seen crossing Highway 39 between the West Fork Bridge and Crystal Lake Road (a 20+ mile stretch of mountain road) in San Gabriel Canyon, Angeles National Forest.

The list is endless after 32+ years.

Yeah, same as above. Similar calls all wrapped into one nice, gift basket. Usually get these calls in apartment complexes.

Someone paid $100 for a brand new $700 computer that "fell off the back of a UPS truck" but turned out to be bricks in a computer box.

Had some similar. Someone sold something on craigslist, then realized when they got home that the money was fake.

Saw a call earlier today where renters paid their landlord in cash. Landlord called and said x amount of dollars was fake/counterfeit. Landlord gives money back to renters and renters hands over a money order. Renters realize the money they got back was fake. Basically a what came first, chicken or the egg?

                              Hmmmmm, most recent.

RP states 18 year old son bought a car with his own money without RP’s permission. RP is father of 18 year old. Wants officers to tell son to listen to RP.
