Less than a year to go before retirement; sounds like he called his wife on the way to the call (he was thinking things were gonna get ugly I guess), first through the door... Sounds like the guy I'd want to work for. Broward County could have used someone like him.

I read that too. A real loss for Ventura County. RIP Sgt. Helus.

The service will be held November 15th at 1200 hours. It appears to be an open service. I am currently planning on attending as a member of our honor guard.

Those of us that knew you, know that you are the one we'd want to respond if our families were in danger. You answered the call.
You died a hero, but that doesn't take away the pain.
