I went through boot camp at MCRD San Diego in 1998. I can honestly say that my DI's were hard *****, but no one ever hit us.

DI's haven't been hitting or choking people on a regular basis since the late 80's and widespread hardcore hazing stopped with the blood wings incident that got videotaped in '95. I saw that show they had on TruTV a while back and the LASD academy looks about as rough as a trip to Ikea. A Marine recruit with 5 or 6 weeks on the Depot could call a better cadence and think of better "games" to play than some of those instructors they got over there.

Stress academy. WTF is that I thought they all were?

I went through the LASD academy in 1978. Class #191. We started with 106 cadets and graduated 66 cadets..

Successfully did away with those who should have never been hired.

Thats because you had not been hired before you went through the academy... No real loss if you didn't complete it... Just try again...

Those who were sworn while in the academy had been hired... A real good reason to not simply quit and try again next time...

Successfully did away with those who should have never been hired.

I was in Class #190. We started with close to 130 and graduated 89. All LASD Deputies, no outside agencies.

And some of the instructors were former Marines...

It's obvious reading his post history Barbell909 and BojackUSMC are the same individual. I've always seen questionable posts when he was under his former username but didn't want to call him out on it.

It seems whatever physical and/or mental issues he received from his military service have prevented him from being hired as a sworn peace officer at his current department and other departments.

He does appear to work in a non-sworn capacity for a law enforcement agency which sucks considering his obvious integrity issues but if they want to let him pass out sack lunches and change inmate underwear for 20+ years then he can have it.

However, I hope the stringent hiring process for high quality law enforcement agencies in this state will prevent him from ever getting a sworn position where he's out in the field.

Or maybe my conspiracy theory is just a bunch of hot air and bs. If the op wants to meet me in person and clear up the confusion drinks are on me and I'll be the first to come on here and apologize.

The day I opened the envelope with my LASD badge brought a tear to my eyes. That was many years ago.

I looked at my badge several times a day for about a month, telling myself "I earned it!!!!"

It is difficult to compare Military boot camp ( For me U.S. Army) to a LE academy.

Boot camp is shorter, yet it is relentless and 24/7. Complete immersion all the way to the end with no real distractions. You can’t really be fired, nor can you quit easily. You can be recycled though.

The LE academy is far more challenging academically. There is much more at stake financially (At least in my case) since I had quit my previous job and spent all the money I had to buy suits, uniforms, and equipment. The pace was also relentless and the academic learning curve was much steeper. On the other hand, it was great to be able to hit a drive thru on the way home and depressurize for an hour or two before starting homework, studying, and prepping uniforms and equipment for the next day.

Both were difficult, especially in both cases being older than the average recruit and not really a standout in any particular area. Both are experiences I remember fondly, with much nostalgia, but would never want to do again.

Lastly, both environments create one universally identical phenomenon: In the minds of graduates, every recruit or class or company that goes through after them has it much easier, less stress, and lower standards to graduate. This isn’t even necessarily true, but in the minds of those who have been there and done that, it is an unshakeable fact.
