    LASD academy

    Just wondering members,

LASD academy is stress academy? One of my church member just passed the written exam not long ago, but he have no idea if that academy is stress academy or not.

    Thank you members,

As a former Marine here, I think everyone needs to get yelled and kicked, I mean those days are gone now, but it should be tough.

I'd say somewhere in between US military basic training and maybe say orientation for new librarians...

Kind of weird how LASD recruits have to wear suit for month or so. I go out there and buy cheapest suit I can buy lol.

It's a "right of passage thing." The wearing of the uniform is supposed to mean something and has to be earned. At the same time, it's better that those folks who quit at the first sign of stress not wear that uniform.

It's also something that can be taken away. At some point after the class goes into uniform, either the class will do something dumb, or a member of the class will do something dumb enough to make up for their classmates, and the class will be back in suits again.

But that same idea works in reverse. I was in federal service before I joined the LASD and completed the Federal Criminal Investigator Course at FLETC in Georgia. That was a non-stress program and nearly all of the class were prior service LEOs. We were issued training uniforms for the "dirty work" days of training and were given the option (as a class) of wearing the uniforms for all class sessions, or of wearing suits for the academic days. The same "right of passage" thing took place. Investigators wear suits. The class opted for suits.

Don't try to figure this stuff out. You gotta place your trust in the training staff and give 110%.

I wonder how many will quit these days if they go back to little bit of old school training like spitting on you, kicking, and name calling. I know most young people do not believe those stories because they think people always over exaggerate telling stories. But, over 15 years ago when I was in the service, our DI in the USMC use to hit us and chaplains will ask the recruits one on one about how we got black eyes and bruises in our body.

My grandpa was a police officer as well and he used to told me some of his police academy stories and things they do to rookies during briefing before going 10/8.

The day I opened the envelope with my LASD badge brought a tear to my eyes. That was many years ago.

Same for me as well sir,

I had tears running in my eyes when I got my eagle globe and anchor and my badge afterwards. Greatest moment of my life.

Never understood why people give up or ring the bell when they are getting paid to workout.

It's a similar level of stress as the academy you went to, with the difference being they get sworn in as peace officers at the end of it.

Why don't you post under your old username anymore?

I didn't know cdcr had the rank of corporal and were county employees as stated in some of your previously mentioned posts.

Maybe BoJackUSMC could chime in and clarify the misunderstanding.
